Just wondering if anybody uses these and if you like them. I'm looking for a quick way to transfer small digital prints to aluminum blanks that doesn't require purchasing a laminator!!

Have never used a speedpress but, I understand the concept. A fellow signmaker once showed me his homemade verison of the same thing that worked extremely well and could be made in any size.
He used the aluminum extrusion that is made for window screens and the molded plastic corner pieces to create the appropriate size rectangular frame. Then secured clear transfer tape to the frame using the rubber spline, same as you would use for the window screen.
It was quick, inexpensive, re-useable, and the right size for the project.

I sometimes use it. All in all I like it but I am going to try Bruce&Deb's suggestion. Often it is the wrong size for what I need and it costs an arm and a leg for a frame. Sometimes I have problems getting the letters to come off. I am sure at times I use the wrong film. Would like to use it more, it is just to easy to slap transfer tape on the smaller stuff.

Roger is there a demo video availabe? A friend has highly recommened the speedpress but I am having a hard time picturing how they work. I picture them to be clumsy. Are they only for use in house or can they be taken out on the job site?

Hi Suelynn, Yes I have two Speedpress frames....I especially love the smaller one for repetitive jobs.... A simpler method that works very well for me... I peel back a tiny portion of my printed, but unmasked decal.... postion it, stick the exposed part in place, pull the rest of the backing paper off and squeegie the decal with a felt squeegie. Done! Works great, is really fast and very inexpensive.

Suelynn, When you're in Irvine you'll be about an hour away from Speedpress in Carlsbad. Perhaps you could arrange to visit them and see it working in person?

I don't have one, simply because I don't think it applies that much in my operation here. But I have watched Roger Zimmerman show it's capabilities at Sign Shows many times, at times he was right beside our booth and I got to watch him A LOT. The speed press seems like a really wonderful tool that helps save time and save application and registration frustrations, and of course saves application tape.
I would ask Roger specifically about your original question concerning the small print to aluminum blanks. I'm glad Roger showed up and responded.

Just like Myra, I've watched Roger do this (hundreds) of times and every one spot-on registered, no bubbles.
If I still made signs I'd consider it a requirement.

The SpeedPress is very light in weight, a 2 foot x 6 foot is about 4 pounds. The tool is made so that you do not need a helper to transfer vinyl.
It is famously easy to use....it is almost like an extra pair of hands.

I've watched at shows, fell in love with the simple concept and how easy it seems to work. I just have never come up with the extra money yet to purchase one. I went to the BIG show in charlotte last fall to purchase one but I couldn't find them! One day, I can see the use in my 5o% vinyl shop, esp on larger things, just do alignment mark and press.

I have one, and for some things, I love it ! And not just for repetative applications.
I use it alot for Coro Signs.
From time to time, I get a call for a very large amount of coro for a festival grounds near me. And it is always a last minute order. For instance "Can I get 75 signs by this Thursday"?
The Speed Press is the only way to go on this kinda order, it makes it possible to complete on time. It is also so easy to use that Non-Sign person can be taught quickly, for instance "O.K. I need to get all 75 of these done by this Thursday, I'll cut and weed, you do this"
And as far as film goes, it last a VERY long time. I have ran letterally hundreds of applications on the same film, you will just have to learn the 409 trick...
Anyone that owns a speed press should know the 409 trick....
Yes it is EASY, and YES it will pay for itself Quickly if you get the right order..
