I only notice this while/after using Adobe Photoshop....I never see this in Illustrator:
After working for a while in Photoshop....a few hours or so, I will notice that the "Color Picker" gradient selection area loses it's smooth transitions between color hues....and has "blotchy" areas displayed which used to be smooth color transitions.
If I minimize Photoshop and look at my desktop, which has a picture of a 1963 Corvette....I notice that in certain gradient areas of the Corvette, there is this same "blotchy" appearance, which is somewhat pixelated, while other portions of the picture look normal.
AND....withing these blotchy areas, there is a horizontal "rolling" pattern moving from top to bottom through those blotchy areas.
If I close Photoshop and restart the computer, or turn the power on the monitor off and then back on, my desktop picture goes instantly back to normal.....until I work for a while in photoshop again.
My Monitor is a Viewsonic 20.1" VP201s. It's about 2 1/2 months old.
The Connection is DVI-1 and I'm using a ATI Radeon 128 MB DDR 9700 card w/tv out (although I am not using a tv hooked up to it...just the monitor)
I have tried a new DVI cable with no difference in results.
Speakers are about 10" away from monitor.
I have a wireless mouse that is about 12" away from the monitor.
I have a laptop that is about 1 foot away from the monitor.
I have a scanner that is about 1 1/2 feet away from the monitor.
NOTE; I HAVE UPGRADED THE VIDEO CARD TO THE LATEST DRIVER PER ATI TECH SUPPORT.
NOTE: I have my scratch disk set to my second hard drive (drive D) and have it set for 50% resources.....cache is at default of 4 (whatever the cache is for???)
My system is a Gateway 700 2.4 ghz Pentium 4 1 gb of RDRAM memory 1- 300 gb Maxtor Diamondmax 7200 rpm hard drive (Operating system) 1- 200 gb Western Digital 7200 rpm hard drive (storage) New - Antec 430 Watt power supply Video Card- ATI 9700 128 mb DDR Radeon 1- Netgear wireless adapter card 1- 4 port usb 2.0 pci card 1- 3 port firewire 1394 pci card 1- Sound card 1- USB scanner 1- USB Epson 1280 desktop printer 1- USB HP desktop printer. 1- USB Palm device
Any ideas? Does this sound like a video card problem? Monitor problem?

I would have to guess the monitor is going out,
next time just power down the monitor (not the whole computer) see if it clears up, if it does its the monitor that is going bad.

Todd....I did power just the monitor down and then back on...and it cleared up.
So you think that's the problem then?
