On Wednesday, February 2nd I start the Dale Carnegie class in Sales. I took the regular Dale Carnegie class in '93 and got a lot out of it so I called their offices the other day to inquire about taking a refresher class (which I believe is free).
Well, after talking with a representative for a few minutes I became sold on the fact that what I needed was a class in sales and signed up right away. It's not easy on the wallet but based on the value of the first class, I figure a class geared specifically at the one area where I've had no formal training is a wise investment (and legitimate business expense).
I'm obviously looking forward to the class and wonder if anyone else on the board has taken Dale Carnegie training? If so, how much value did the class have for you?
Thanks!
Paul

They MUST be pretty good huh!
I read a Dale Carnegie book several times years ago. If you are lacking in 'people' skills and rough in communication you will not be wasting your time to experience this program.
Also, check out a guy named Zig Zigler! I don't have a web address but I'm sure there is one. He is an incredibley awesome motivational speaker.

"How to Win Friends and Influence People" was probably the most important book I've ever read (along with Mike Stevens" "Mastering Layout") Like Mike's book, Dale Carnegie breaks down and troubleshoots his subject - what makes people tick.
Let us know how the sales course goes.

All good books, I've read them all. Also the book "How to stop worrying and Start Living" I'm not sure if this is the correct title but it's by Dale Carnigie as well, and even though it was written in 30's or 40's, it's still relevant today.
My wife did Dale Carnigie about 10 years ago, and then she became a graduate assistant for a few courses, it really helped her, too much I think, she tells me off all the time now, she would'nt do that before. lol

Yeah, but Neil...if she was really practicing the technique...she could tell you off and order you to prepare dinner and do all the laundry...and you'd happily yet mysteriously feel pretty darn good about doing it....hehehehe....just teasing.
I read "how to stop worrying and start living" and "how to win friends and influence people" also....I still have those crusty old books and need to crack them open again....people skills are worth working on and the principles devulged in those books are timeless....
Good luck and have fun with those classes Paul..it's money well spent.

"HI MY NAME IS CHRIS FARLEY, IAM A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER AND I LIVE DOWN BY THE RIVER IN MY VAN" this pretty well sums up my opinion on all these "pay to learn" secrets from people who probably couldnt hold a job at mickey d's at some point in there lives. the biggest problem i see with most people is, how they see themselves. this comes from years of being led by the nose by parents, teachers, peers, bosses. i didnt know what i was capable of untill i quit my last job. then i had noone to guide and instruct me. but the one thing i had was "self esteem. got most of that in the years i spents in REHAB. now this is where the rubber meets the road so to speak. you got to know you and what you are capable of. i read a lot of books in the years in rehab, also i was in penna., and i tell people i woundup goin to PENN STATE instead of the STATE PEN. this was all do to "self esteem". i was a art major psyc minor and held a 3.5 GPA. so that in its self was an accomplishment i never thoght i could do. got outa high school with a d+!!!!!! try some of these books you want some "free" secrets to success. REALITY THERAPY, and any thing you can find from JOHN BRADSHAW, he has videos and cassettes and books. once your sure who you are.... anything is possible.

In my opinion, it's time and money well spent - squeeze every ounce of knowledge out of it you can. Dale Carnegie was among my first books on self improvement, along with David J. Schwartz, Zig Ziglar and Napoleon Hill. Now I have two entire walls full of many dozens of similar books. I'm a sucker. Thumbs up to Sheila - Zig is awesome - I've met him personally, and attended two of his seminars.
I'm actually thinking of writing a motivational book and calling it "Peeling Away Old Paint", about softening the 'outer shell' of our minds,so we can absorb 'new paint', or new ideas. Or maybe I'll call it "Can New Ideas Stick to Old Paint?" Or "You Can't Teach Old Paint New Tricks".
Hey Joe - I'm just kidding, man. And I'm really glad you're back among us. How you doing?

doin great....you know your life dosent have much excitment when i got all exicted because i finally iam able to pee standing up!!!!! hahahahaha also iam a very open minded person really. i just seem to do things that are way different then these people you mentioned. my mom was a real "thief." and she taught me most of my business sence, not tha i use her tactics to make money, but i can draw from it when i need to...the key is knowing when. she was also a gambler, woman run card game and sold booze without a license while my dad was in the va hospital 1946-47. and she made a livin in between all the arrests!!!!! iam very enlightened in chinese medicine, herbs, homopathic medicine, eastern philosophy THE TAO, and i did tai chi for number of years. i see these motivational speakers in about the same light as "evangilists"....lot of promises, but 1st i need your money. ive been to a few of these and i see most of em like EST therapy group. iam very open minded, just know when iam bein bull****ed....old story is you cant b.s. the b.s ter!!!!!! how many people get bilked outa ther money from people like carlton sheets, the guy whos gona teach you how to sell cars and make thousands when you cant tell a spark plug from a lug nut. or the company that tell you how to buy govt impound cars for a fee? lot of people jump at these and then after the moneys spent and they get nothing they are to ashamed to say they got took....so it was money well spent. some people need these things in there life, ill pass and for 60 years iam doin ok....hehehehehe

WEll Joe, If you ever went to a Zig seminar, or read one of his books then you may get more out of it than you think. ITs not all about how to be a kind person. Its all about something else.
Another GREAT book to read is
E-Myth by micheal Gerber.
Its around in different version but, is one of the single most enlightening business books ever ever read.

Do you realize, this guy has been motivational speaking since I was like 5??!! LOL, see? His program works too!! He's still goin'!!
I was SO sad I missed his seminar on Montgomery, Alabama about 2 years ago . . .

Have you ever wondered what to say when a prospect says, "No thanks, we've got a vendor that we're very happy with."?
Well, I'm at the halfway point in my sales class and I've finally learned that there are ways to deal with such statements without reverting to traditional "hard sell" tactics.
Sales is a process and it's virtually the same regardless of what service or product you offer.
I honestly can't recommend this class highly enough to anyone who is in sales or owns their own business. I know I might come off sounding like a Dale Carnegie shill, but the techniques taught in the class are tremendously effective and if applied will definately boost your business.

one other job i had in my youth(23-27)was outside sales for a NAPA jobber store in caribou maine. now many of you have no idea of how hard it is to sell to people who say nothing more the hey-up or no-pe! if you ever want to learn to sell, go to northern maine......they listen but got nothin to say unless its important. learned real quick how to interest people in YOU 1st product is 2nd ary. once you got a repore with the person your are sellin to, then the rest is easy. i dont lose many jobs that i have face to face meetings with. so if you ever see a course on sellin in maine.....TAKE IT....hehehehe
