Dearest Letterville neighbors,

Thank you so much for contributing to the 'Pat Loves Bobbie' thread.

Yesterday, Bobbie printed this thread and took it to Pat. It brought him laughter, a sense of being and above all, we were all there with him. Bobbie said, 'It was perfect!' She, thanks you, from the bottom of her heart. Thank you, Steve & Barb, for giving us Letterville.

At 5am this morning, Pat's spirit rose into the heavens.

The Moose Lodge, will host a memorial in Pat's honor, on February 6th, at 2pm. Currently, I do not have the address.

Pat's desire was to be cremated. When plans are secured, his remains will be placed at a family plot in McCalla, Alabama.

Bobbie, is doing as well as can be expected. Coping.

Here is information to contact Bobbie King:

124 NW 50th Ct.
Pompano Beach, FL 33064

954-725-6151

With this news, my heart is heavy, though my thoughts are filled with the countless joyful memories, Pat and I share. What a paradox. I know, Pat would rather I laugh, than cry. He, is with his creator. Peace be with him...

Bobbie, my heart goes out to you. I'll be in contact and am only a phone call away, if you should need anything.

Cher.

Pat had 3 loves in his life. His God. His sweetheart Bobbie and Letterheads. He was a teacher, willing to share with all. I'm looking over past photos and most have some new Letterhead with Pat, learning to letter. This one really hurts.

Pat's meet in Alabama was the first one I went to. He bet I wouldn't show because it was right after 9/11 and I was stressin'.

He took the time to do whatever was asked and answered questions without hesitation. He drew my name in the first panel swap and made his trademark mirrored lettering that looked like a tiki to me.

I'm bummed that I didn't get to the other post in time to let him know I appreciated him for being such a great guy!

God speed Duckie!

I was on my way to the board when another head called & told me the news.

He was definitely 1 of a kind. His enthusiasm, way of looking at life and of course his sense of humor. First memory that came to mind after hearing the news was his giving directions to the hotel to the heads that got to his meet the night before.... go to where the school used to be, before it burnt down 10 years ago & turn left. That was after he told us "you can't get there from here".

Think I need to be alone the rest of the day.

That is awful news. I knew Pat had problems with liver damage from hepatitis, but I'm shocked to hear he has passed away. I'll miss him.

I first met Pat King in Belvidere in '97. He was working on Elaine Wallis's American House wall; having driven up to Illinois in that old station wagon he had painted with purple One-shot. The jokes and funny stories never stopped pouring out of him, he had the whole crew in stitches. Later he said that coming to Belvidere and being involved with Letterheads had changed his life. I know he had a part in changing all of ours.

It's real hard to think of him not with us any longer. My condolences to Bobbi. [Frown]

Actually the flag is the infamous 'dayglo' paint spattered coveralls.....

A moment of silence is observed......

ps Steve and Barb, how's about a new page 'Heads Wall of Fame'. Pictures of past 'heads', imposed on a large brick wall with a partially completed mural???

I feel like I've lost a relative. I'm so sorry to hear this, for Bobbie, but I am so glad for her that she had the time she did with him. Their's was such a romantic novel but real life love.

I can imagine Pat having access now to colors we can't even imagine exist! Paint the skies Pat, paint the skies.

My sincere condolences Bobbie~

Judy called me while I was on the road traveling to a job about 20 miles from here . . . sort'a out in the country away from people outside . . .

Plenty of time for reflection . . .while riding and working.

Could'nt help but think how I had just talked to him on the phone not 2 weeks ago and thought he sounded incredibley weak in body, but incredibley strong in mind.

He gave God the glory in all things and for the special favor of, discovering after they moved to Pompano that, the Liver Center was very close to their home.

He spoke of faith.

And when he talked about the things he wanted to do in the future his voice strengthened.

Sometimes it's hard not to ask the Lord why.

If Pat were to answer that he'd say,
"Because God can see other things, and has other plans . . . .hope this helps."

I was fortunate enough to meet Pat and Bobbie at the Duck Soup meet back in September of 2001.

I left there feeling like a part of a family, one that I could never imagine would be so large. Everyone here and all my other brothers and sister of the brush that couldnt be there are a part of this family I speak of.

Some people will never realize how much of a loss this great family has suffered. Those of us that had the chance to meet Pat and even had a chance to learn something from him even if it was possibly only to enjoy his wonderful personality or to learn how to handle a brush that he always made look like a magic wand. Will really miss such a great man. I can only think that Pat is up there somewhere looking down upon all the wonderful people that have touched his life in one way or another and somehow he will be up there teaching us in his own subliminal ways.

I know tonight I will be taking out a paint brush and painting something with it as a way to show thanks to Pat for giving me a chance to paint something that I might have been too shy to try had I not attended Duck Soup.

Pat your definitely one of my letterhead heroes and you will surely be missed by all of your peers.

Best wishes and thoughts to Bobby from the Draper family. We met Pat at Gary Anderson's meet in Bloomington, Indiana. Then we caught up with each other at the Letter Rip meet in central Illinois.

What I remember about Pat was his interest in painting mirrored lettering sideways that looked like a totem pole at first blush, then by turning the piece sideways and covering over the backward letters you could see the real name or saying.

Pat also had quite an extensive library of hand lettering alphabets in his head. Those may be lost now forever.

He will be missed.

This thread is a great testiment to Pat's positive effect on others. It makes me pause in introspection, to wonder how I would perceived as I part this world. Lot's of room for improvement here. [Frown]

God bless Pat's entire family....by the sounds of his faith and life, he's securely in the presence of the Master of all master's; birthed into an eternity free from pain and suffering.

God bless everyone here in Letterville. [Smile]

What a day for me to come back to visit this board. It was for sure I thought we'd run into each other again after I heard he and Bobbie was in Florida. The couple of opportunities of painting with that man were a true blessing and now he is recieving a true blessing by being right smack in front of Jesus himself with that awesome Pat King smile. I have only attended 3 meets so far and Pat King was at all of them. He was so energetic and enthusiastic. He taught others with every breath he took and genuinely loved life. I don't believe he ever took anything for granted.

His faith that God would provide was solid and he danced joyously with his paint. (How else can you explain those coveralls?) LOL.

He was truly grateful for his gift of talent from God and, oh, so in love with Bobbi! Both of my children were able to meet him and fell in love with him right away!

I may be ramblin here, but as stated before, such a loss to the Letterville Community! I am grateful for the time I did get to spend with he and Bobbi.

Bobbi, I pray strength and peace for you and your family and friends! His joy and faith touched so many people, you may never run out of folks to hug you through this. > [Big Grin] <

All our love and prayers,
Linda, Emily and Jennifer!

I had the good fortune of meeting Pat at Duck Soup, and he evan put me up for my last night in America and took me to the airport in the very early hours, all with the happiness you all know he did everything with. We also did a panel swap and mine is proudly mounted in my shop.
He was a great bloke and couldnt do enough for anyone. After I got home he sent me a PKING rubber ducky, which my kids still play with in the bath, and my wife cooks using the apron he gave me at duck soup. I have other things Pat gave me at the shop, so theres always something to remind me of this great guy.

He will be greatly missed.

All I can think of right now is that Pat King was one of those people who made your life feel richer because he was part of it.

I truly admired his faith and the fact he wasn't afraid to show it. His love for Bobbie, too. He and Bobbie shared breakfasts with Dana and I at Jimmy Chatham's meet and it is among my most cherished Letterhead memories.

He was someone I am going to smile about at the times we shared together. He was some who lived the Letterhead spirit. I am going to miss him.

Go with God, Brother Pat!

My deepest sympathy. He was one heck of a fine human being.

All of us that know Pat, know we lost a very special friend, but the ones that lost the most are the ones that never had the pleasure of meeting him.

I didn't know Pat personally, but I always appreciated his thoughtful and kind responses to my many questions posted here, on the Bullboard. He will truly be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. He was truly a fine man and a great Letterhead.

Monte and I were talking about Pat on Friday but, of course we hadn't heard the sad news at that time.

Pat is an "institution" that will be sorely missed at meets all over the country.

Our condolances Bobbie.

I'm not very good with words here, but I'll try.
It's been a few days since I logged on to find out this terrible news.
Quite a shock to have this happen to such a dear man. Bobbie, for all your loss, you have my heartfelt sympathy; I remember so much about Pat and what Pat left as a legacy to us, and in his life, as he was always wanting to teach others and share. What a generous person, Pat was, just painting up a storm so that he would have enough panels to give to everyone. He worked so hard, and loved it! I am also so happy for your love together, and that's the happy ending- a love with so much in common, and a family bigger than life itself.
I met Bobbie and Pat at Vinton, then at Don and Dora Hulsey's in Kentucky and then again, in Atlanta. At each meet, Pat was the last to leave as he stayed behind to finish a truck at Don's, and a wall in Atlanta.
At the Atlanta meet, I was fascinated by his first woodcarvings that he was so proud of also, and the designs were spectacular, showing his steady hand and imagination. It certainly seemed as though he had been doing them for years. What a natural! Besides all the fun stuff like the painted speckled pants, (I remember EmpY wearing them to Australia even 6 years or so ago when I first came on board), and all the rave of the paint splattered getups. I enjoyed his posts as also his help with some features of gerber pounce patterns way back then, via snail mail and email.

Along with the long ponytail and wild van, there was a sweet, kind, awesomely sensitive guy walking the walk of a true sign master. Pat was so proud of Amy's surprise panel too.And he loved his doggie!!!
The first time I met Pat was in Vinton, Iowa, about 4 or 5 years ago, along with his sweetheart, Bobbie, and it was also in Vinton, when Bruce met Dana in person, and Gail and Devo were also there. It was a time to remember. It's going to be sad without Pat, but, Bobbie you are here to keep his spirit alive with us. There were quite a few love stories in Vinton that year.
May God Bless your soul, Pat,
Bobbie please lean on us, as Pat would want you to. Please call or write for anything,
sincerely, Deb

This has really thrown me for a loop. We have all lost a very special friend. He was my mentor. I designed a set of mags tonight and laughed & cried as I went "out ot the Box". Which is something he fussed at me for not doing enough of!

Don Hulsey, you said it all, those who really lost we the ones not blessed with knowing him.

Rod, my Duckie reigns over the PKing panels on my "Wall of Fame."

Bobbi, if you read this, I love you too. You are just as good a person as Pat. May God bless you.
