I ran into a problem yesterday on an installation. I've experienced it before, but the job was never large enough to warrant any research UNTIL yesterday.
As anybody in the NC/SC area knows, it has been raining cats & dogs. We were on-site at a poultry company to letter a new straight truck. The logo is rather simple, but LARGE. The lettering is a neat old script in red, but a green holly leaf. I immediately ran into problems while installing the red script. It seems the humidity caused the transfer tape to stretch in between the letters. What happened was as I made each swipe of the squeegee, the transfer tape tended to 'wad' or 'wrinkle', which in turn made some wrinkles in the vinyl. I know the wrinkles came from my squeegeeing over the areas that 'wadded', but this 'wrinkle' effect doesn't happen til the humidity gets really high.
What are those of you in areas with constant high humidity using? what brand, what type?
We're using Transfer-Rite Ultra. I've got both Low-tack and High-tack, but the same problem happens with both.

Humidity here runs pretty much 85-90% or above 24/7/365 and that problem isnt uncommon....the only one that wont do that despite what people are gonna claim is the clear tape...and if it sits for a couple of days before application the humidity is gonna curl the edges.....any other tape in this climate will stretch like that,the edges will curl up if it stays taped any length of time etc......only other option is not taping it off until you are virtually going to leave for the job or do the job...if it sits any length of time after its been taped off,whether it sits inside or outside,a/c or not,winter or summer, thats gonna happen despite what everyone here will probably say...at least here.

Forgot to say dwayne....if its real humid,90% or above,alotta times its easier to apply with a rivet brush and just go over the physical areas of vinyl itself and not the entire sections of tape itself with squegee pressure whether its felt,regular,whatever or it will wrinkle like that

Put it on with Rapid TacII, it bonds very fast, holding vinyl down tight so the tape won't pull it into wrinkles.

The paper tapes absorb moisture but the clear film tapes won't. We make two styles of clear tapes in low, medium and high tacks. 1504/1510/1520 are "first generation" clear tapes that are frosty looking. 1310 and 1320 are more clear with a bit of a blue tint.

Thanks, Sara...thanks, everybody really. We have looked into clear application tapes since reading your posts, and we will have some on hand to use on the next high humidity job.
