As I wrote last week, we are getting ready to put up a new website for our .com name. I have lots of cool ideas, but want something really different this time around.
One of our difficulties is to describe to folks exactly what we do, and also HOW we do it. I want to show our prospective customers just how much work goes into a feature as well as our methods of construction.
I've had this idea in my head for quite a while and was waiting for the perfect feature... something nice and complex with lots of detail but not too large in size.
We are currently working on a very cool submarine and have now finished the welding stage. I've positioned it in our shop against a relatively plain background so we can do time lapse photography over the next week or so while we build.
I'll reverse the process a little by doing a trace concept drawing from the same vantage point. When we are done I'll combine everything into a flash movie and post it to our new site as one of the new pages.

You're right with your guess Peter. It's phase II of Riptide Lagoon. This time around its an oceanographic research station base. The sub is for hole 5.

The candycane thing is the 'snorkle device' for subsurface stealth cruising and is made of welded steel. The spoked wheel is the 'exterior handle' to open the 'hatch'... The cast concrete oversized 'bolt' acts as the hinge... and the 'periscope' is peeking over the left side above the wheel. The 'viewing porthole' is on the nose with a light above it.
It's all hard to see when it's in the pencil rod phase... you'll just have to trust me on this one.
I'll post the drawing tomorrow... I'll be doing it tonight on my laptop while I watch the next eppisode of Survivor.
I had only a vague idea of the project as I started welding with only a few quick scribbled sketches to guide me. We invented this as we went. Sorta like usual.

Ahhhh.....Thanks Dan, I think I understand now! (I mistook the hatch cover for the steering wheel) anyway, I trust you, with or without a drawing.
As usual, you sparked a couple of ideas for me (I just reminded myself to get some gas welder tanks & order some parts for my golf cart). By the way, when it gets cold, DO NOT, when faced with a hard startin' Yamaha golf cart gas motor, automatically just turn around & grab a can of ether & give it a coupla shots down the intake. Here's the drawing of the sub for folks interested. On the final site we will morph the varous stages of this drawing together with the ongoing construction pictures of the sub. The build will take a couple of weeks and then processing the new site will take a while after that.... I'll post when it is done.
