Howdy
Has anyone ever updated a Rainbow Sentinal Key from parallel to USB for the Gerber Omega software? For some reason it is not working they way the book says it should and Gerber Tech Support will not call me back I put a call in with them yesterday in the morning and now it is a day and a half later.
Omega 2.02 will not work without the USB dongle.

it didn't wrok according to the book for me either. Do you have a distributor? I was able to get help from my distributor.

I think there is one place in the rainbow sentinal configuration dialog box where there is a chart of sorts & ports are listed across one side (or the top?) & then the correwsponding boxes say ON or OFF (or maybe it was yes or no?)

...anyway, obviously you need to have the box for USB checked, since this is how you tell Omega where to look for the key. BUT, you also have to uncheck (toggle to OFF or NO)all other boxes so Omega ONLY checks the one right place.

That might help, but if you haven't already done so... you should post this question at 4edgetalk.com You will get a solution over there for sure.

Dennis,
Doug's on the right track.

Go to your Windows Explorer -
Program Files - Rainbow Technologies - SentinelSysDriver.exe
When open, you will be in the Sentinel System Driver setup.
Go to Configure Driver - Sentinel Driver
You will probably have 2 choices.
Highlight the IBM AT setting. Click EDIT. Where it says "Use?" change it to NO.
Where it says USB, edit it, if necessary, to say YES.
You should be up and running.
Call me if you need to. When I'm here, I usually answer the phone anytime until about 10pm Eastern.

Gerber tech didnt get back to you eh? How strange. [Roll Eyes] I think Gene and Doug are on the right track. What OS are you running? When Ive done it Ive had no problems on XP.
From what I know you cannot plug in your Key until it tells you to. I tried to install Omega once before and couldnt get it to work. Turns out the Dongle was no good. Had to send it back to the nerds to figger out.

Hope this isnt the case with you cuz it may take a week to get your Dongle back.

Good luck!

Is 2.02 the latest update? Or is it a new program ($$$$)?

Dennis,

If upgrading from GA or Omega 1.x to Omega 2.x, “I” would caution against turning the Parallel Port to “off” until after you have successfully written from the Parallel to the USB key. Doing so before hand is going to cause additional headaches for yourself.

Want you may to do is verify that the port the Parallel dongle is attached to and the USB port are both enabled (set to “Yes”), then initiate the write conversion utility.

The general flow should reflect something similar to the following:

If the above upgrade path is not what is actually happening in your case, then disregard everything I typed.

I doubt it will do you much good on a Friday evening, but I would try the dealer I purchased the program from. They should always be considered for the first line of contact in a situation like this. Often times, they provide a much faster response and sometimes willing to volunteer a little more information then the folks at GSP can.

Good luck and report back what you find out. It may help others in the same situation that stumble across this thread and looking for guidance.
