Okay, Since you all did so well with Kissy's problem... All of a sudden, when I Open OR Import a JPG file in either Corel PhotoPaint OR CorelDraw9, I am only seeing a VERY faint image. VERRRRRYYYY Faint, like 2% image! I have no clue.

Jill, This is weird. This has been happening for a week or more. I think the programs are jealous because I have been using Adobe Photo for quite some time. I needed a certain filter in PhotoPaint and that's when I found out I couldn't see Images.

What program made the jpg?
If you have photoshop...
open it up in photoshop and save it as an uncompressed baseline("standard")jpg. Make sure it's not a .jp2 (jpeg 2000) file.
Or better yet, open it up in photoshop and resave it as a tiff. Once you apply your filter in Photopaint, you can save it as a jpg from there.
While in photoshop, check the channels, there should only be channels for RGB or CMYK.
Also, newer programs and scanners support 48-bit color...Corel 9 might still be on 32-bit or 24-bit. Don't know if that could cause a prob or not, but it might. So, while in photoshop, make sure to convert it to 24-bit color (or 32-bit, if you know Corel 9 supports it--the higher the "bits" the richer the color).

Curtis, I don't know where the opaque settings are, but if you tell me I will check, although I dont think that is the problem. Even in the thumbnail of the image it is faded out. The color wells are faded out. The color management displays are faded out. EVERYTHING. The screen is fine. The actual Corel "program", if you will, is in full color (the frame around the image). William, These JPG's are from any number of sources - camera, artwork, scan... it doesn't matter the source. All are faded. My Adobe Photoshop is fine. All of the same images load fine there. I just reloaded the Corel 9 program. The very first "thumbnail" showed in color as it should. The JPG image loaded... faded again. The next JPG thumbnail was then faded and all subsequent files are faded. I opened a CDR file that contained a Photo within a page with some color and other copy - like a political flyer with a photo. The background and letters are fine... the photo is FADED!!!!!????? No rhyme or reason, please help.

Gene...Could you e-mail me one of the images that are faded? I can look at it in Corel 12 and see if it is faded here.

Check the view settings and make sure they're set to normal or enhanced. The default may have been changed. You might also try selecting the bitmap, selecting the Arrange menu, and clearing transformations. Other than that - I don't have any other ideas... John

I am thinking change your colour management setting to default or at least ckeck them. Also if you bring one of these faded graphics into photoshop is the graphic still faded or normal? Do you have the right monitor driver for your computer maybe the gamma is wrong.

Some of you Corel gurus can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a F-button that you can press & hold as Corel is loading, that restores ALL settings to the original factory settings? If so, why not try that? If a default setting was inadvertently made, that action would undo the change made, would it not? Posted by Dave Grundy (Member # 103) on :
Ken...Holding down F8 while starting Corel will reset the "factory defaults". I've only doen it once and can't remember for sure if it promts you to choose yes or no. Obviously if you want to reset things to original you'd hit "yes".
A suggestion though would be, before doing the F8 thing, to go to tools>options>workspace and click on "new" and add the current workspace to the list of available options if you have done a bunch of things to customize the workspace to get it the way you want it. That way, if the default settings don't cure the problem you can easily revert back to the way you like things to be.

Okay guys, something worked... but not any of the suggestions, sorry. Steve E, you got close; you made me look real close at Color Management.
Here's what I did: I reloaded CorelDraw and Paint. The first time I went in I was able to see the thumbnails just fine. Then I opened a JPG in Paint. NOTHING again, fade city. Went to CorelDraw this time and imported a JPG... nothing again. SO... Here goes the FIX: I went to Tools / Color Management Checked - "Calibrate Colors for Display". Unchecked - "Display Simulated Printer Colors" I needed to do this in BOTH programs.
VOILA! I have color in all the places it was missing, and it WAS missing everywhere, even the paint color wells. I have no clue how this got switched or when, but this fixed it. I have a feeling it had to do with the RGB settings and somehow involved an Epson 820 Printer reference (I saw it somewhere in my Color Management / Options travels and it didn't look right). Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, I tried them all... believe me. Dave, thanks for the offer to look at the files, I knew they were working in other programs though. John, I really thought that was the easiest most obvious too. Yes, it IS sometimes the most obvious, that makes you kick yourself in the butt. I'm just glad it's over!
