Anyone know of a tool/option/plugin for either Illustrator or Flexisign that would allow me to take a shape and round out any sharp corners?
I've got lots of smaller logos that I'd like to have my plotter cut into vinyl and I know these sharp edges will cause some problems.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

CorelDRAW does that by using the node tool and pulling the corner node of any rectanle inward. If you have a fairly recent version of illustrator, I wouldn't be surprised if it already has that ability, too (as illustrator is usually very comparable in features to Corel and that is not a mighty hard task to ask of a graphics program)...might want to check the help file or check the appendix at the back of the user manual.

Scott It is part of your Flexi tools on the left had side to edit the nodes so you can make them round if you want.

With LXI I convert to outlines, and then grab the round corner tool and start pickin and roundin'... I'm sure flexi has something similar

Scott - you can also already do it in Illustrator, although it's not as accurate or effiecient as most sign programs.....
In Illustrator, simply select the vector object which you want to apply rounded corners to and then go to: effects/stylize/round corners and plug in the radius you prefer then select "ok".
Again, Illustrator wouldn't be my first choice for consistant undesturbed adjoining lines after the "round corners" has been applied....but it is there for your info.
Although I no longer use the program, I have found that Signlab 5 did an almost bulletproof, beautiful job of this.

With CorelDraw, one problem is that if you have stretched the rectangle (before or after rounding the corners), the rounded corners will be proportionately distorted with the stretch. You dont have Corel, but I thought it might be useful info for others who glance at this thread.

There is a plugin for coreldraw that does exactly that.
You simply chose an object, specify a radius and it will round all the corners to that radius.
It works with Corel 10, 11, or 12 and is well worth the $50

Hey Scott....I just found this site which contains a "rounding" plugin feature for illustrator:
I tried the demo and unlike Illustrator and the "filet" functions in CadTools plugins, it will radius corners without changing the adjoining line segments.
I ordered it.....the cost is $139 US and has chamfer tools and other functions as well....works with most versions of Illustrator including CS.

Gerber has this feature in their Outline module...we use it any time we want a qick and easy "weed"...you can literally "zip" off the weeded portion without fear of losing a single letter .
