Just received a IM about someone wanting another Pricing project. -
A little different this time.
This is a sign I am starting on this monday. It will be Dimensional. Wanted gold leaf letters but wasn't in the clients budget. I will post my 3 tier pricing later on in the post. ( I have to make 4 of them but price for only one single face)
(WARNING I shot myself in the foot with this project but it will be fun anyway.. ADD Distraction [Rolling On The Floor] )
I will post the finished sign when done and materials used.
Lets see what everyone else comes up with on material usage and prices it can be flat or dimensional your choice.

For a flat painted/vinyl on MDO...$550

I have no idea for dimensional (if that means sandblasted HDU) cuz I have never done that before.

I'd love to see others guess on the flat painted/vinyl version.

thanks for another Price Is Right. These are great.

William,
Thanks for running with this. It's a little tougher with the options but here goes.
Okay, flat/MDO/vinyl/EdgePrint/not installed: $528.35
Dimensional/1"HDU/Blasted/EdgePrintGlobe/not installed: $856.38

Design - $250
2D MDO - $540 ($45 sq. ft.)
3D Blasted HDU - $1040 ($85 sq.ft.)
3D carved w/appliques $1500 or more ($125 sq.ft.)
I know a lot of people say that you shouldn't price by square foot because of the variables. Normally I don't.
The prices I mentioned are what I use as a guide to try to get the client to commit to a budget.
I always try to sell carved and gold leaf first, because $45 square foot for MDO or Dibond sounds cheap as compared. [Smile]
Remember, It's a lot easier to lower your prices than it is to raise them.

Havin' fun,

Checkers

For those of you playing along here, please add how you're arriving at your price. IE - breakdown shop rate, time for design/paint/vinyl/etc. A figure doesnt mean much by itself.... Especially when the vary so widely.

Posted by William Bass (Member # 4929) on :

MDO: $40/sheet + 100% m.u. = $80
vinyl: 0.67/sq. ft. * 12 sq ft = $8 + 100% m.u. = $16 + a little extra = $20
Paint: I dont know exactly...$20?
Artwork: 1hr @ $60/hr = $60
Cutting MDO to shape: 1/2 hr @ $60/hr = $30
Priming, sealing, and coating MDO: 1hr @ $60 = $60
Cutting, weeding, applying vinyl (something I dont have a good feel for, yet): 4hr @ $60 = $240
Painting the globe (I dont have an edge): 1hr @ $60/hr = $60

Materials -- $120
Artwork ---- $ 60
Labor ------ $390
Total ------ $570

Okay, I did something a little different (???) and came up with $570 -- $20 more than my first estimate.

I think I under bid the artwork by at least an hour. That's my problem. I cant go changing estimates...so, $550 it is. Win or lose.

I think Checkers has got a neat system...an artwork charge and a production charge based on square feet. Interesting.

Sheila,
Okay...
Part 1: The Price is Wrong... where I hijacked Mike Pipe's post with my "Kars" sign.
Part 2: Come on Down, the price is..." By Doug Allan
Part 3: In William DeBekker's mind somewhere
Part 4: William DeBekker's ACTUAL game here.

William,
there's a movie where Matthew McCauhnehay plays this really funny, crazy-wacked truck driver and you look just like him in your pic... [Big Grin]

Diversive,post-hi-jackin' trivia question:
What movie was that??

Hiya William,
My square ft. pricing guide came from my old boss who had many years of experience doing this type of work. He based his prices his overhead and an average time to complete signs like the ones I mentioned.
I have to add that these were just guides. When the project details were worked out, we would adjust the price accordingly. Signs with heavy text or a lot details were higher, others were lower.
We also had minimums order amounts too. If memory serves me correctly, carved & gold leaf was around $350 and Sand blasted wasn't much lower.

Havin' fun,

Checkers

ok Guess not to many people want to play [Frown]
The way My 3 tier should have been
1. Flat sign Painted background Vinyl Letters and globe $475
2. Dimensional Sign Flat cutouts and Round Globe $950
3. Carved letters Gold leaf Dimensional Globe and the works. $1550

He went with the Middle priced one. But I had already started the globe and I was thinking about a different project when I quoted $650. OOPS But Oh Well Good Portfolio Piece and I will have the mold for more 1/2 Globes that I can sell.

Shelia.. I fit that discription I am a crazy whacked out Sign Person. Or at least I could get a job as a Wal-Mart Door greater if I keep Mis-bidding.
