Some background....I was always a Netscape user in the past and as a result Netscape has always been set as my "default browser". I also have, in addition to "Pop-Up Blocker", "Ad Aware" and "Spybot" installed. In the last couple of years I have been using Internet Explorer all the time and with Pup-Up Blocker activated I have never run into problems with unwanted pop-ups.

Until yesterday!!!

I was doing some disc cleanup and for some reason I was asked if I wanted to change my default browser. Since I now use IE all the time I did set it as the default browser. Suddenly I was innundated with pop-ups in IE!! Even with the "Blocker" activated.

This morning I reset my default browser back to Netscape and no more pop-ups!!! [Applause] [Applause]

I am thinking that these pop-ups target the "default browser", and of course if it is not open they don't occur.

Just some info for those who are being bothered with all those pop-ups. Maybe you should install Netscape and set it as default even if you never intend to use it.

Seems to be working for me.

Dave, I use IE. After a thread here, I downloaded and installed the google toolbar. Easier to do searches when there is a box at the top ya just type into & hit "search". It also has an awesome popup blocker. Since installing it on this machine, it has blocked 3164 popups. [Smile]

The latest browser that is getting raves among heavyweight surfers. It has no popup code within to exploit.

Ive been using it since it was a Mozilla BETA and really like it. It has a default google search. And it does not have the heavy overhead that IE and Netscape does. Plus. Its FREE!!!! The top tool bar is barren of a lot of crap and it is customizable...

No need for intrusive add on search bars, no need to put up with popups. All you have to do is just try it.

One of the better popup blockers for IE is a freebie by Panicware. I've been using it for over a year. It's easy to install and works like a charm.

I'm with Curtis, have been using FireFox for a few months now and really like it.

I installed Firefox yesterday along with Mozilla's email application Thunderbird. Both are fine so far.

I was very impressed with the clean import they did of both my IE and Outlook Express settings, favorites, email archives, address books etc.

Equally impressive is the large number of plugins available to add features or to change the look.

Talk about timing...
I just spent the day dumping over 500 items off of my computer. I didn't installed a pop up blocker before heading out west and while Gump was surfing around, the new computer got overloaded with adware and spyware.

Not only was the system markedly slower, I could hear the cooling fan was running nonstop...YIKES!
There was so much spyware running in the backround, the processor was at 100% usage at all times. Left alone, it probably would have fried the processor.

All better now. [Cool]
