I smelled tornadoes in the hot heavy wet air all day, but they moved on north.
Rain was heavy, strange colors in the sky, loaded weather.
Asheville got it yet again, in a different way from Frances which has flooded it and left it without water for close to a week, this time less water, more wind related. Awful Damage. Fatalities. I-40 has simply "lost" a whole stretch of itself from Asheville towards Tennessee.

Joe, and others affected, I don't know what to say. I am sorry, it is so disconcerting, a feeling of rape when your personal environment takes such a hit.
Whenever we are left to count our blessings, that is what is asked of us, I think.

friday midnite. all quite and calm the air is barley moving and the temp is 69-70 outside.
the house is open windows, and with the generator running. i got box fans blowing air(after 135 mph wind, iam runnig fans hahahaha)in to cool the house down so we can go to sleep. i shut off my generatorat 2 am and all i can hear is the 5-10 other generators in the neighborhood goin all nite long.
whole area is on a dusk to dawn curfew, and the cops arent takin prisoners, if your out where you shouldnt be. i worry about looters roamin round late at nite with no lights they pretty well got the run of that time space. i nap after supper(7-8 pm) wake up 10-12 and sit up most of the nite till 4-5 am while hennie sleeps. then i go to bed and sleep till 10-11 am. power is not gona be restored till maybe 3-4 weeks. the absolute distruction of electric poles, transformers, wires are unreal. you cant drive a mile with out running over a power cable. the water is trickling back on took a shower last nite for the 1st time since wed. not much pressure but enough to take off the stickyness.
we got a gas hot water heater.....and have hot water.....i sit in the swing on the front yard and am just overwhelmed at the amout of work its gona take to make this place look decent again, and all i can do is sit...still stunned. it should take a couple more days of quiteness to get me up and movin to do something other then being on "just survival mode." went to discount auto today got some plugs and oil for an oil change on the generator. let the oil just run out on the ground, dont think with all the other mess EPA is goan get for 2 qt oil spill. the lawn tractor starter went out tuesday so now i got fix it so i can "mulch" up some of the smaller debis. thats tomarrows job and i need to get gas tank filled in the big truck...as the eagles said "runnin on empty"...keeps rollin thru my head.

We have some friends staying with us for a while.....came up from Baker FL.
The guy and son stayed down there, but sent the wife and girls up to stay with us for a while.

He works at The Pensacola Naval Air Station and had to go to work today, (essential personnel).

They said the Base had hundreds of millions of dollars of damage.

Hope you bartered for the guy for tree cleanup.

Joe, I know you are going to miss your trees, but it looks like they may have saved your house by taking some of the beating while acting as a breaker to some of the wind.

Be careful, and good luck to yu.

OP,

Hope you guys recover soon, sorry to see the aftermath. As Faye says, we know how you love the greenery and natural beauty. Hopefully, it will grow back as it does moreso in the tropics than the seasonal areas. Good luck, we'll be thinking of you. Sorry about what is happening to the entire area, my heart goes out to them, as the shock is wearing off and the reality sets in. What about all the animals and wildlife, what happened to them?
