There is a Toshiba Laptop on sale at Costco this week for $1299. It is fully loaded Intel P4, 3.2 processor, packed with memory - 512MB, HD space - 60, DVD burner, the latest wireless technology - b/g. I'm very tempted to run right down there and buy it today.
Anyone have a Toshiba laptop? Pros?...Cons? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Kimberly, From my experience Toshiba laptops have been one of the most reliable that i have used. I have also used HP, Compaqs, NEC, and a couple other no name brands but i think the Toshiba models are the best overall. their construction seems to be some of the best if seen and Currently i use a Compaq laptop. with around the same specs you mentioned and it has served me well, I bought it to try it out plus after all kinds of rebates the price was really unbeatable. Got it all including a printer a carrying case blank cds and quite a few other items for under $800 so i cant complain but i would definately go with Toshiba as my first choice when i purchase a new one

Kimberly - Get it! I just printed off a Consumer's Reports article on recommended laptops. Toshiba 2nd for least repairs.
They were average for tech support/hold times.
Consumer Reports Brand Repair History from least repairs to most repairs as surveyed by 57,000 subscribers went like this:
Apple (least repairs) Toshiba Sony IBM hp Dell Compaq Gateway (most repairs of those surveyed)
Good luck and enjoy that new laptop. Posted by Bob Darnell (Member # 27) on :
Hi Kimberly,
I've only heard good things about Toshiba laptops, and that's what I recommended to my father. He's quite happy with his.
I always like to check out http://www.epinions.com when I'm looking at electronics. These are reviews by people who have bought the item, so take that into consideration. Some people always think they've bought the best model possible, but most of the reviews give you an honest opinion of the pros and cons of the item.

Kimberly,
Go for it. Toshiba is top-notch equipment, especially their laptop hard drives.

I have one, LOVE IT! It's our 2nd one. first one was really old and got zapped when we were hit by lightning last year. Insurance replaced it with the comparable model at the time.
It has built in wireless and makes cable internet awesome to use all over the house and even in my backyard with a wireless router.
I highly recommend them.

I do I.T. for 40 hours a week and signs/lettering for the other 20. 2 years ago we bought 4 Toshiba Satellite 6100's. I'll number them 1 through 4. Here's the history: 1) 2 weeks out of the box; crash! Motherboard or hard drive (can't remember) 2) A few months after purchase; crash! Similar problem. Although it's been fixed it now has a recurring CD ROM drive problem. 3) Worked fine until last month. Hard drive crashed. 4) The last holdout. This one's mine as was fine until last week; hard drive crashed. All 4 were troubled in some way with definite hardware problems. Perhaps it was just that model; the other posts seem pretty positive. I had a Toshiba TV that last 11 years (rest it's soul). Anyway, food for thought.

Kimberly, Toshibas are our current laptop of choice in our organization. They take abuse well, are easy to maintain and we've had no problems with repair.
I must say you'll probablly be very happy with one.

Kimberly, not sure what your whole objective is for the new laptop but if you have a Best Buy in your area, I just happened to pick up yesterdays paper and saw a Toshiba, Intel Celeron 2.7, 256mb 40GB, DVD-RW $599. of course it has a after rebate of $300, just a thought

Kimberly
THe laptop you are looking at sounds a lot like the one I bought three months ago. So far I am very happy with it.
It's the second Toshiba we've owned with good success.

Thanks you for all of the great replies. I didn't say thank you yesterday because my husband(very gently) put the kabosh on my purchase and I was bummed. He NEVER says no about my buying anything so we sat down and had a long talk about finances. I showed him that we can in fact afford it...he doesn't seem to think we need another computer. Oh come on! We only have THREE for two adults and one small child! Seriously, my old laptop is ready for the dumpster.
Anyway, by evening, he finally said - okay, go ahead and get it but I'm not sure. He must have pretty strong feelings about it for him to have said no to start with.
Thanks again everyone.

Those pesky budgets! Don'tcha just hate them?!
Well, if you do decide to go for it...at least you have a lot of recommendations for the Toshiba brand. Let us know if you nab it.

Kimberly, Cicuit City has the very same Toshiba Satellite 512MB, Pentium 4 laptop for $149.01 less with mail in rebate. Check it out...free shipping too! Toshiba Laptop I would love to have this one also!! Good luck with your purchase! Judy

You got me all excited there Judy but this one has 2.8 processor instead of 3.2, a 40GB hard drive instead of 60 and a DVD-ROM drive instead of a DVD_+RW burner. Thanks for the thought though.

Who has a Toshiba Laptop?!??! I do!!!
I've only had it for a few hours and I LOVE it so far. Took me a little time on tech support to get it all connected to my wireless network but all is well.
Can't wait to play with it some more! You're right Timi, the first thing I'm gonna do is dump some of the "junk" they pre-installed.
Thanks again to all of you for the great input. You really reassured me about my selection.
