If you haven't heard. Darrell Russell was killed today at St. Louis, at the NHRA Craftsman Nationals. Just over the finish line at 3 bills plus, the left rear tire let go and broke the car into 3 pieces. Apperently, some of the pieces of the tire went into the cockpit with him, resulting in the fatal injuries.
We had planned on attending the race this weekend, and couldn't. I'm glad now we weren't there.
God bless Darrell and his family.

Terrible news. What else can you say. Condolences to his friends, family, and fellow racers.

Real bummer, said he was doing around 322mph. Sad day for his family and Joe Amato and everyone.

Terrible news, Dave.
Condolences to the friends, family and fans.

The race track where I occasionally work also lost a long time helper/crew member. While in working on a car in the pit area, David McGee suffered a heart attack. Despite EMT efforts, he didn't make it.

The track owners arranged a tribute to him this weekend. It sounded like a fitting farewell ceremony for someone so invoved in racing.

After seeing so many drivers
come out of violent crashes like that,
I was really disheartened by the news
of the outcome.
I turned off the YV.......

He was a top notch guy, and drove for one of the best.
