I hope you guys don't let all of the BS that's been going on in Letterville lately get you down.
You run a great service here and I have always admired you for your wisdom and sense of fair-play. With the exception of a few er...strange exceptions, I suspect this is a universaly held point of view.
Thanks for everything you do!
I, for one, appreciate it very much.
Sincerely,

Life's too short for all this BS. Have fun!

I agree that Steve and Barb are two wonderful people...but can't agree that this board has been a pleasant place to pass the time lately. I'm sure as bad as it's been lately for us, it must be that times 100 for Steve and Barb. There've been a couple times in the past week that I've logged onto the bb, and actually got a headache after reading a couple posts. Something not right about that picture that needs to change in a hurry.
Hopefully it'll get better soon....it always has had bumps in the road, and has always gotten back on track after awhile.
I will say that this is the calmest election year on the bb that I can remember...speaking only of the political crap.
Posted by Bob Burns (Member # 268) on :
Hell....if it wasn't for all the back-patting; self-emulation; bitching about something or someone; and an illegal plug once in a while; and Steve and Barb trying to avoid further heart problems, etc......THERE'D BE NO BB!!!
Posted by Kathy Joiner (Member # 1814) on :
Thanks Jon for this thread. We all need to show our appreciation and respect to Steve & Barb.
We will never all agree all of the time. I just don't understand folks arguing over differences.
If everyone thought like me it would be a scary world.
Posted by Don Coplen (Member # 127) on :
Kathy!!! What are we gonna do, argue over our agreements?
Posted by Doug Allan (Member # 2247) on :
at 3 cheers apiece... we're up to 27 (or 30?) cheers so far. Thanks Steve & Barb
what is self-emulation? striving to live up to, or otherwise compete with yourself when you're actually beside yourself?

Thank You. It's been very stressful around here the last week. Letterville is much more than just a business to Barb and I. For the last 8 years, it's been our whole life.
There have been times recently when we have questioned if Letterville is really doing what we dreamed it could. Is it still bringing potential Letterheads together? Are there more meets with lots of newbies? Are we managing the website properly? Is it time to look for new hosts?
It dosen't take a lot of dirt to spoil ones view out the window. Your comments are a reminder that the vast majority of Letterville users still believe in Letterville. It's wonderful to know we still have friends. Thanks again.

I love the site and hope to meet you all one day.
Posted by Ian Stewart-Koster (Member # 3500) on :
aha Roy, I've been looking for you- all those metric post holes were actually imperial sized ones, and they were tagged at the wrong end, so I had to pull every single one out and turn them over. Some were damaged in transit and so were too short, and although I put them aside to reuse later, now I can't find where I put them. We re-adjusted our tooling to accommodate the imperial sizes, and now need some more holes. I wonder if you would email me a few megabytes worth please. Sea mail is a bit too slow.
(PS thanks Steve & Barb)
PPS Roy, I just found some of the the shorter ones- they make good airholes for banners.
Posted by Rick Sacks (Member # 379) on :
a fourth cheer..... with all the consideration that proceeds a decision it certainly doesn't look any different than in a real household. I didn't know I needed another mom and dad, but thank you Shortreed's. This place means a lot to me.

i applaud steve and barb! they are wonderful people...and if you guys are having a problem with some of the dickwads that are causing trouble...you let kissy and i know...we'll fix their wagon!

Hi Steve you wrote this statement and then locked the thread.
(I do no there are a handful of people that are not happy about me owning letterheads.com and letterhead.com. People talk and we've been hearing for years that a more prominent, skilled or published Letterhead should be given the domain. Used to hurt a bit, but I've learned to get over it.)
Well I have been surfing the web for close to ten years now and I find this web site is the best with whatever name it would have! Now I have never seen even one other site run by a more prominent or skilled publisher that is even close so until someone else gets real good you have no worries. You and barb are doing an incredible job and you should be proud.

I know handling this place can be rough at times, but please know you're appreciated. I have learned so much and made some truly awesome friendship here. Thank you.
Karyn, got that flaming baseball bat ready?

Big ups to Steve and Barb..owners and keepers of the best board on the web...keep your head up. You are loved.
Posted by Jay Nichols (Member # 2842) on :
I'd like to add my cheers to this dogpile! Running a forum like this has gotta be a bit like herding cats- it is more than a full time job. I visit some other boards (sign-related and non-related) on a regular basis, and the thing I've noticed is THE DYNAMICS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME ON ALL OF THEM. People are gonna be people. The trick is enforcing any rules of the club, and doing what you can to see than nobody goes to bed angry. Steve and Barb are excellent at this, and their obvious passion for the place is evident in what they do with it every day. Ya just cant keep an eye on all the cats all the time, and that does keep things interesting. Kinda like life.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Those are my words to Steve & Barb. I don't get on here very much and must have missed any bad stuff. I've gotten lots of help and encouragement from this board. About the only time I have been able to contribute back is when someone is looking for something in the advertisment / promotional field. I'm just a wanna be signmaker and I appreciate Steve & Barb allowing me to particpate. You are wanted and needed, so hang around and give us a place to hang out. If you are ever down Georgia way, just give a shout and we will show you some southern hospitality.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever even think of making signs. I love it!! We've been in business 10 years, and a resident of this board for 7years. With this board and the Letterhead meets, it has been a wonderful education, fun working vacations and we have met some very special people. Thank you so much Steve and Barb. We'll leave the light on for you!

hats off to you guys, have to say you're made of steel, Barb and Steve. I wonder how you have put up with all of this, as you definitely have the red carpet rolled out in heaven. You possess the inner beauty this world needs, and you've demonstrated the patience with this site, and each of us learn and receive, some don't appreciate until they are in your shoes. Then, they will not ever be able to be leaders such as you. Meeting Steve and Barb is an honor, so I hope you all do that soon! One way or another!

Well heck, I've been learning lots on here lately. Mostly about character.
There are those who are driven by money, and those who lead with their hearts.
The success of this site is largely because it is being run by the latter.
This site has alotta heart. I'll stick around.

Well said EVERYONE...Patsee and I will support your opinions forever.
We understand this is "your site" and you and Barb have "absolute say so" I've never found anything you've done to be offensive or out of line.
Truthfully the only problem I've ever seen on this site are from jealous people that wish they had thought of it and are doing their best to run it which is the same as "ruin it" for those that want to share and make good friends.
I know how easy it would be for you to "pull their plug" and they should appreciate the fact that you don't.
Thanks for being here...We'll be here as long as you two are!

There are other sites where you can talk about signs, but none like Letterville. I would miss this place greatly if it wasn't here, so THANKS, Steve and Barb.

Thanks Steve and Barb, and sorry for the fiasco. I think you handled things with a lot of class. Your community of Letterville has become an important part of my professional development. A great big thank you to those who have served as mentors to me on this site as well as at meets - I think you know who you are, but I'd like to give special mention to a few... Pat & Ruth Welter, Marty Happy, Lottie Prokott and Suelynn Sedor for being my rocks when I need them.
Joe Rees for your design guidance and encouragement.
Jill and Si for their sunshine. Keep up the morning IMs Jill - they start me out on a great note. Si - love your humour and OT posts - but you really should get to work Also a great big thanks to those who contacted me the last few days to show their support.

Don't know all the happenings of late, hope it hasn't been too much of a problem for you both.
This site is by far the best site on the internet for sign folks. It is interesting, informative, and has opened a whole new world for myself and others as well.
Steve and Barb, as matriarchs of this extensive extended family, you have free reign to deal with matters as you see fit. Personnaly I think deal with matters fairly and effectively. We should all be grateful for such wonderful hosts as yourselves.
To second the thoughts on another thread:
quote: Great things to come out of Canada:

Man, I been jumpin over so many posts lately, I almost missed this one.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
Someone mentioned that someone else had said Steve and Barb are not qualified to run this site. Maybe they should find someone that is qualified, and start thier own site. Then, they could get all the whiners to go over there. Me, I'm gonna stay right here as long as Steve and Barb allow it.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

I can't imagine anyone other then the Shortreeds running this site, both do a wonderful job. I've been here eight years and on my second name and yet still bring a smile to everyones face, to some when I come in the door and to some when I leave
Posted by Mike Duncan (Member # 316) on :
Don, I agree!! No whining-take it elsewhere
Joey- anyone who gets a smile when you leave just doesn't get it!

HAHHAHHA; Mike, I smile at Joey leaving because I know he'll be back......usually just in time w/just the right remarks.

Thanks big time Steve and Barb, you are doing a wonderful job. There isn't any other place like this one to get....or give a little help. It may get a bit colorful at times, but this would be a very boring world if there was only one opinion. I just try not to get involved with the ugly topics.
When raising my 4 kids I would sometimes ask them not to do something, and sometimes I didn't give them a reason. Usually it was because the odds were good of them getting hurt. I'm not saying that we are kids...just that I understand that at times for reasons that may not be clear to us you have to do what you have to do, like deleting an ugly post, etc... and I can accept that.
Over two millions hits on this site since January....you must be doin' it right!
Posted by Steve Shortreed (Member # 436) on :
Thanks for all your encouraging comments. There has been several times lately that I've had a good look at myself in the mirror. The face looks the same, maybe a bit thinner, but I hope it's the same person.
I know I've developed slightly thicker skin over the last few years. Letterville is my life and it does hurt to see it ridiculed. My biggest fear is that some of the critism may be true and that I am blinded by pride. We're not as "innocent" and trusting as we once were, but it's time to get up, brush off all the dirt and get back on the road. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts.

I was showing a potential merchant this site yesterday. I told him how I don't understand why everyone doesn't pay $50 a year to be a resident because of all of the perks, and why more retailers don't pay $500 to be merchants. The exposure is awesome. I learn too much not to pay. I would feel guilty if I didn't.
