Chapter 3 on the non-working vinyl cutter. New main board arrived today. Installed it, placing everyting exactly as it came off the old board. Plugged in the cutter, turned it on. you guessed it, same black squares. Nothing works. I called tech support. No one will be in until Monday. I asked to leave a message for someone to call me on Monday. The girl said that no one would get the mesage because their phones were not working. Until now I have not named the company. It's Signwarehouse.com Before this I have always gotten great service. I still think it may not be hooked up to the computer correctly. Every tech said no way that could cause this. I'm totally disgusted.

Robert, I honestly feel your pain. I am by no means a computer expert! But last fall I about died when my plotter went dead. I fidgeted and fumbled, called tech support, ordered a $150 part I didn't need, and came to this BB for help too. Turns out I had something plugged in wrong. Someone here suggested that it might be my problem, and sure enuff, it was. I would suggest while you wait till Monday, to go over every step you did with a fine-tooth comb. Hopefully it is something simple. I feel bad that you have to go through all this BS, but maybe there is an easy answer you just can't see. I'd walk away from the darn thing for tonight, and start fresh in the morning. Good luck! Love...Jill

Yes Jill, I think I have narrowed it down to not being plugged in right. When I right click my computer, then left click properties, then click device manager, then click the + sign on ports, it shows my printer and my scanner. It does not show my cutter. when I bought it tech support had to walk me through plugging it in correctly. I never unplugged it at the cutter, only at the computer. I must have it plugged into the wrong socket. I'm not a computer person either. I think we should still use pencils and tablets.

We had a main board and the Y motor go out on our Signwarehouse.com plotter-they offered to send us the parts or we could ship them the plotter-we shipped them the plotter to make sure it would go smoothly. Customer service was excellent. However, on our last vinyl/spray mask order, they were back logged and drop shipping the supplies and it took OVER A MONTH to get our materials-different excuses, late returns on phone calls, etc...we lost a few jobs and looked unreliable to our customers-not cool. Being out in BFE, we have limited choices when it comes to obtaining materials-Up until that order, they were a great company-but they really lost their "attaboys" with that colossal screw up. Since I have been satisfied with their service up until the that order, I just placed another-the materials are supposed to be here on Thursday and more jobs hang in the balance-we'll see what happens this time....

so Jill, what didn't you plug in? I have the same plotter as you, right? a 4b? Which plug was it? I get tired of all these plugs too! Mine's running fine, but, for future reference, I'll heed the info. Do you have graphix advantage too?

if ya have a camera it wont hurt you to take a picture of your connections someday just so you have a reference photo, I* mean seriously though, use some tape and mark each cable awith a number or a letter and mark the back of your computer if your forced to disconnect things, and then you wont have any troubles.
As for Robert, I dsont know what type of cable he is using to connect his plotter to his computer but I would bet a nickel that he doesnt have many options on the back of his computer as to where he can connect it to. if its not working fromt he first one try the second one.
Oh and by the way, you said that it doesnt show your plotter when you look for printers, that means that maybe you need to reinstall your plotters software in your computer, where you go thru installing a printer. it may also be a cable issue for all we know.
I hope that somehow we can help you fix your problem before the end of the weekend, that will show others the benefit of letterville and the benefits of being a member here.

Not going to help you this time..but I have masking tape labels on all my wires..If I have to disconnect anything, I know where to plug them in later. Most things won't plug in the wrong way but some will.
Just an idea.

Deb, this was on my 4E. I had something plugged in BACKWARDS. And yes I do run Graphics Advantage. Love...Jill
