Pantone has this "new" tool for matching colors and was wondering if anyone has used it and if they found it helpful.

This is from their website:

Identify the closest PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® Color for any item you can click on. A hand-held spectro-colorimeter, Color Cue™ is preprogrammed with PANTONE® Color data. Once a color is identified, the data is made available through a simple scrolling feature. Where else could you get PANTONE® Color ink formulas and CMYK, CMYK EURO, Adobe® RGB (1998), sRGB, HTML, L*a*b*, Hexachrome® and XYZ values in a single device that fits in your palm of your hand?

Bump.

Richard, I don't see a need in my small one person shop for one of these, but it does have me curious...

Richard,

THese things are great if you are doing a lot of PMS matching, i.e. designer work, etc. and the color is already applied or not easily removed to bring to your shop, or if you do offset/desktop printing. Otherwise they are of no real value. Spend the money on an actual Pantone Printer's edition to get the solid color fandeck if you are really trying to match color with paint, etc. The vinyl color charts you have will indicate if they match any applicable Pantone colors anyway.
