I had the pleasure of meeting a nice young guy here on the BB...a "newby" named Starr Horne from the Tulsa area. After a few missed dates we finally got together at my shop and spent the best part of the afternoon practicing "strokes" and introducing him to some quick pattern making and hand lettering techniques. I'm afraid I skipped around a lot and hit on some things he wasn't ready to do ...but all in all...it gave me a chance to "show off" and hopefully set him off in a direction he's most disireous in traveling.
He had already been practicing his strokes and has a good feel for what the brush can do...he has the desire to get involved with Hand lettering and pin striping ...I'm not much at the latter but hopefully I can get him hooked up with someone that can. "Lil' Toot" in Tulsa comes to mind...if anyone has his number I sure would appreciate your passing it along.
Keep an eye out for Starr at the meets I think you'll be seeing a lot of him...please give him all the encouragement you can.
Wow... my first meet! I think it was a success...I hope he did too!

Good one Monte ... I honestly think the teacher learns as much as the student cause you have to explain how and why! Makes you think
I have a student from the local college coming for a week's "work experience" in the August Holidays. It's organised by the college's vocational guidance scheme to give the kids an idea of what is involved in a chosen career.
The kid is real nice. And keen!!!! Should be fun.
Last one I had was a fitness nut. Thought signwriting was not too demanding. Run him up and down 16ft scaffold for a couple days. This old dude ran the kid into the ground The trick is to pace yerself.
