I have a powerbook G4 and would like to know as well what would be the vinyl plotter and cutter out there that is best suited for my G4.
thank you

I'm going to say that probably all of them would work just fine with the mac....if you can afford it, stick with some of the higher end name brands: Graphtec, Roland, Summa, Ioline, etc.

with a mac it aint the plotter that will cost you but the small amout of good softwaer..which will be very expensive.

There you go spreading those rumors again Joe.
John, look into a Graphtec. A very good plotter that comes with an Illustrator plug in. You cut right out of your Illustrator file with your USB connection.
On my older G3 I cut with the bridge program, Signpost. That's hooked up to the same Graphtec with the serial connection.

Hi John:
What version of Illustrator and Mac OS are you running? If you're on OS X, you'll want to consider MagiSign. They seem to be best at staying current, and they have drivers for some 350 different cutters.
lets see on a pc i can cut from COREL,ILLISTRATOR,CANVAS,ARTS & LETTERS EXPRESS, AUTOCAD, and sign programs like SIGN WIZARD,VM PRO, COCUT, PROCUT, AND SIGN TOOLS FOR COREL. then you got SIGNLAB, FLEXI, INSPIRE the list goes on......

John... I can back up what Jim Dogget suggests. I have a powerbook G4 with the Magisign plug-in. I also have a PC with Corel and Co-Cut Pro. I use both frequently. If I am just vinyl cutting something that I have designed in Illustrator...It's easy to just go straight to the cutter without having to save it into another file and import it into another software. I use the Co-Cut when I am contour cutting larger prints that have been digitally printed. I have the Summa tangential with opos and the accuracy of the opos just amazes me. I have used other cutters and I can say that not only does my Summa plotter "Rock" —So does the technical support at Summa.

I reccomend Magi-Sign highly...with a Summa or Graphtec. Gerber also has a plug-in for Illustrator and thier plotters and with an Edge later you have a printer cutter combo, albiet limited in size. I believe Flexi is working out the OXS stuff and available soon. As Joe implies there might be more solutions for the widows platform, but the one that are out there for the Mac are just as good, besides with a face like Joes...do you really think he knows Mac?

John,
I've been running OS9 with a Summa T750 thru MagiSign and have been extremely happy with the setup. If you know your way around Illustrator, you'll be just fine.
Summa equipment and support has been extremely good also. I don't regret any of it for a minute. I would tell you to stay away from Flexi though. They had a helluva' bad time with Macs, and you can do just about everything Flexi does in Illustrator for 1/4 the cost.
My 2¢.

only mac i ever messed with was one of those that had the OS on floppy and you put it in the slot to get the computer going.....i feel the same about macs as i do about GOOBER....ea their good...but they dont make my life any better cause they are in the ELITE!!!!

OK Joe, we wont comment on DOS if you don't comment on Macs anymore. Windows has been trying to keep up with them for a long time now as Apple has been the technology innovator. They dropped floppies, had build in Ethernet, USB and Firewire all standard when you guys were still buying cards for your "inexpensive" pc's. Maybe you still are. You drive your chevy and we'll drive our "elite" Beemers.

bill, i was doin computers...1972. about the yr you was born. i was in the air force and they hada the IBM 1050-2. now as for mac being the "inovator" yea they did some good things. but the germans "inovated" the jet and rocket engines......infact BMW was one of the 1st to make a jet engine. but....that was 1944!!!! a lot of other people have made those things a lot better. like i said before the only reason bill gates dumped money into APPLE was to to keep him from having to deal with govt on MONOPOLY charges....as for BMW's, ive driven them and worked on them, good cars if you own a mechanic shop!!!! i drive volvos, so iam sorta of an "elitist" with a sence of value....hahahahahahahaha

Jimmy D beat me to it.
I have a couple local customers here running a SUMMA quite successfully of of MACs...

Joe, Born, 1972?!?1 Thanks best compliment I've had in a while. If if remember correctly, 72 would put me in my third year of college.
...and didn't we hire all of those German innovators after the war?
As far as BMW's and being a mechanic. I think you've got that wrong as far as cpu's are concerned. It's the windows boxes that you need to work on all the time, not the Mac's. That's the point. You've been working on them for what, thirty years now?
