I have a customer that wants me to go to the cemetary and re guild some lettering on a grave stone. Never done this before. Just curious if I should use a special size or anything like that.

Thanks

I was taught to use one shot chrome yellow as the recieving size.
The thought was that any gold that was removed by wear or other means would reveal the painted surface and thus be less noticeable.
Any over paint was removed by a planed wood block wraped in thin cotton or silk saturated with thinner. using the block as an "eraser" working from the outside towards the engraved letter.
Afterwards coating the text more precisely with clear size while allowing a minimal amount of bleed out, as the engraving leaves a jagged edge, to encapsulate the character.

still looks decent.

hope this helps. J.
