Steve, wishing you a speedy recovery. Barb, when you are ready for them to discharge him just bring on the red thong.

On second thought, he needs to put it on under the hosp. gown.

Thanks Jane for posting about Steve.

He has been having some problems breathing and when we went to the Doctors today they gave him a chest x-rays.

Because of the Congestive Heart Failure he suffered in the past, they want to be sure he is OK.

I'll print this out and take it up to the hospital for him to read.

Thanks for your Concerns and Prayers and I’ll keep you posted on his progress. [Thanks]

Hospitals are a strange place, you lay in bed all day but you never feel rested. It may not be where you want to be, but it may be the best place for you to be at his moment.
When the nurse asks if you want something to ease the pain, make sure you ask for a double..lol (hey, why not, the drugs are free....)
Did Barb bring you a clean thong?

Well, Steve, you've become famous: this is the biggest noncontraversial thread I've seen here! It's just a shame about the reasons that brought it into being.
Joan contracted pneumonia 11 years ago and almost died- 14 days in ICU, specialled with a nurse beside her 24 hours a day- and it came out of nowhere and hit her within 8 hours. It's horrible.
Hope you're on the mend.
Best wishes

Hey Steve,

Sorry to hear you're holed up in the hospital. What a bust, eh?

Well, listen up; since you're feelin' under the weather and all, I figured, today I'd do things differently, a bit out of the ordinary from my usual routine;

*This morning, I painted my cat's toenails hot pink! (they, were really ****y about it)

*I went to the mailbox in my teddy! (it was cold and windy)

*I stole the news paper from my neighbor's driveway. hehe! (I felt bad, so later, I put it on his front porch)

*I didn't wear panties, under my sweats!

and last but not least;

*I mooned the guys at the shop! LOL!

All of this, for YOU! Wish you were here to witness it all...

Glad to hear you are perkin' up again...

Much love, to you and Barb!

Cher.

Oh damn, I'm so sorry to read this (late.....)
At least I get the whole enchilada this way, including the fact you are recovering; thank God.

Almost nobody will say this but me: One day, by default, when you may not even think that this is the time, quitting smoking can actually work.
I tried maybe 10 serious times before I managed.
There is life afterwards, and the bronchial problems will become history. They are for me, anyway, and I used to be sick every winter for many weeks....

When you're ready for another go at it, call me.

Helping people quit is a sideline of mine. If it irritates you that I said it, just forget it. If not remember I'm here.

Guess who's back home? I'm happy to report news of my early demise once again proved false. Thanks to everyone who took the time to send your greetings. It's impossible to stay down with so many trying to pick you up.

This latest stay at the hospital was due to a chronic breathing problem they call COPD. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary (lung) Disease, or COPD, is a term used to refer to one of North America's most rapidly growing health problems. Every year, more and more people suffer from this group of diseases which cause shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing.

Smoking is a major cause, but years of careless spray painting can't be ignored either. In my case, the inability to completely empty my lungs, surfaced years before the heart probs began. In our youth, we tend to feel invincible and ignore things before it becomes too late.

I've got some serious choices to make. The last 5 years of my life have been wonderful. We've had an opportunity to travel and meet people from all over the World. Things have changed the last year. My deteriating health has made what I love harder and harder. Meets are no fun when you are sick.

So I've quit smoking. Last puff was Monday at 2pm. It hasn't been too hard while in hospital, but the next few days and weeks are bound to be tough.

I've also taken more control over my diabetes and diet. I'll never be a perfect patient, but I am willing to make some changes in order to have a better quality of life. Lots of out patient clinics to attend next week.

That's about all there is for now. I managed to pickup a major head cold in hospital and I'm really tired. Just want you all to know how much I appreciate and love you all. I'm a lucky guy.

Steve,

Glad your home! I totally understand what your going thru. My Mother has many of the same things as you. Smoked for 45 years, retired and gained a fair amount of weight, been diagnosed with CHF, COPD, diabetes, high blood pressure (I think I add to the high blood pressure [Wink] ) We just brought her in again today, has a bad cold, see we will see what's going on this time.

Anyway...glad your home and keep up the great work, kicking the butts is a major plus!! We're thinking of you.

You can do it!! We want to keep you around the neighborhood a while longer so, SHAPE UP!! [Wink] (You know that was said in my kindest "Mom" voice, right?)
But seriously, I know it can be very difficult to quit and then throw in diet, exercise....it's a big life change. We are AAALLLLL rooting for you!! GO STEVE GO! Keep a positive attitude and whenever you want to cheat, think of me shaking my finger at you!! [Eek!] (Did that help?)

Now that you have gone a few days without, just remember that you CAN do it, you've done it now. If you are tempted to have "just one puff" just don't do it. Thats how you quit, you beat it one craving at a time.

Oh, did I mention that I'm proud of you? [Big Grin]

Glad to hear that you're on the mend, Steve.

Quitting smoking is in the cards for me too. In addition to all of the OBVIOUS reasons to quit, I figure I will look smashing driving around in the Mini Cooper I plan to win in this contest.

You should sign up, too!

Take care.

Nice to hear your home...I quit smoking about 14 years ago, had loads of problems at one time with nasal habits, and getting stoned.Smoked 2 packs of Marlboro everyday.

I read a book one of the lighting crew had while working on Simple Minds years ago...never thought a book would help me...I have no willpower in that way...one of those that even with chronic bronchitis would sneak out for a smoke.

Anyway I had 800 Marlboro under the bunk in my truck, gave them to the mother-in-law (she died of lung cancer a couple of years later....just kidding [Smile] ) and have never smoked anything since.

Allen Carrs, Easy Way to Stop Smoking 35 of us quick over 3 tours from reading this...don't know how many still are smoke free...its worth a read, no pressure just a good little read...and works!

Just a friendly tip....which is fun to share when it works!

Great to here all of the good news Steve. I just have to share something here in hopes that it may have a positive effect on somebody.

The job I did yesterday was Hand Lettering a coffin of a good friend of mine. He was a race car driver, so it had his number, etc. The past 4-5 yrs, his empyzima had gotten worse. He was always tired and was "tethered" to his oxygen tanks. He also was diagnosed with diabetes in the past year or so. He smoked all of his life.
He was responsible for introducing me to snow skiing about 15yrs. ago and we use to go regularly until his breathing become a problem at high altitudes, but continued to smoke. His whole family smoked as well,.. even after he finally quit and even now. His viewing is today with funeral Saturday ,...I will miss him.

Congratulations on the decision to stop smoking, that deserves a cigar... (kidding).
Quitting is easy, I did it thousands of times.

I know you'll make it with support from all around you, and from your extended family here on the board. I'm sure that quitting will not only extend your life, but restore a quality to your life that you can only remember. Hang in there, find a substitute habit, (sex, sugar-free candy, ... whatever it takes... ) the cravings will pass.

Marie sayes HI and y'all take care.

Glad to see you back in the office, Mr. Mayor.

Hope that you and Barb are doing well and that things only continue to improve for you. Dumping the ciggies is a great start.

Be well!

Glad to hear you are on the mend, Steve, especially quitting the nasty habit. It is not easy to quit but worth it. I quit when Cassi was 5 in Kindergarten and the first Smoke Out. She came home and with the help of her sister, hid and threw out all my smokes. They then spent the next year encouraging and helping me to develop other better habits. That was 27 years ago. Having a cheerleader and support from everyone makes it work. Living longer and feeling better while you do is worth every other sacrifice. I won't wish you good luck but rather encourage you to have the fortitude to stick to it and if you feel the urge, call me anytime.

Hey Steve, glad to hear your home. You have a struggle ahead of you....But I'm very proud of you for quitting smoking.
I've also quit this week, so maybe we should rely on each other for some moral support. Call me anytime and I'll do the same to you.
We can bitch together! haha
