Posted by Nevman (Member # 332) on :
A book or two of 23K patent gold, a sign kit, carving chisels, a French Canadian and Scottish translation dictionary, dancing shoes, 5 year old boy, long johns and a flannel shirt. No velvet pants tho - maybe suede...??
Yup - I'll be there !!!

The owner of those Purple pants said he'd be here....whether or not he wears the Purple is yet to be seen...last time the chicks just melted over them!

I'll be flying in Weds. and staying till Sun. morning. This is a big adventure for me...the first time ever in that part of the country, except for boot camp at Great Lakes, but that don't count. I'm looking forward to meeting you Mike. Now I have to figure out how much of my kit box is going to be "terrorist" materials, when I go to to board a plane with such dangerous stuff as brush handles and mahl sticks. I don't think my regular box would pass inspection.......
Posted by Jane Diaz (Member # 595) on :
Don't think we will be able to make it Mike. Long story...don't want to go into it now. Wish we could be there but we will be thinking of all of you. Don't forget to invite people to add the name of the past letterheads to the memorial banner and pass it on to the next meet. Thanks! Lauri Goretski started the idea and we sent the banner with you from Tomahawk, remember? Have a good time! Toast one for us!

I got chewed out by my wife about this one Sunday afternoon. I did five meets last year, so I guess she has a right to fuss a little. I told her that I was having to miss a great one this weekend in PA. I guess she is over it now. I will be coming in with Ryan and Artie. Don't hold anything those two do against me though Mike. Let the good people of Mazeppa be warned ahead of time.

Just bought the plane tickets online! Here's something I found out to do about that. Go to the sites like Travelocity or Expedia and do your search, see the prices, write down the flight numbers... but before you buy, check out the airline's own site (I saved a couple bucks!)
I called my Mom & Dad, and asked for the car keys already!
This will be SO awesome!! Can't wait to see everyone.
Oh... and I have my flannel lined LL Bean jeans all ready to go!

Started a panel already - should have it finished in time.
The hardest part has been gathering warm clothes for the little one...not too many very cold days down here south of the South...but our friends are coming through and we should be in good shape in three weeks or so...

I'll be bringing the Venison. Holy smokes though...how many deer should I bring? May have to hunt a little more. What can I use to prepare it and when do you want it.
Kevin & I are for sure coming, not sure about Katie or Isaiah yet....
Could I get a flyer...so I can send you some green? Where is everyone staying? I may have to sleep in the truck if your region gets booked up.
This is the first time I don't have to spend the first day of the meet driving! Fly in the day before, leave the day after.
My folks got me a plane ticket for Christmas (I have the best parents!)
Sounds like it's gonna be quite a turnout, can't wait!

I'm so excited reading this post. Dana, your comment about "flannel lined jeans" was a wake up call -- I'm here in hot sunny 75 degrees today. It's hard to think of cold clothes, I'll go out warm clothes shopping this weekend. Mike, the workshops you have metioned sound so interesting -even the retirment one. About the venison - will there be other stuff to eat for those people who cringe at the thought of eating Bambi's mother?

It really makes a boom at thirty below. The barrel is just the right size for a bottle of createx. Half a dixie cup of powder a bottle of createx and you get a big boom, smoke, and pretty colors. A real Sheriff caller. Hope you guys get some snow, we just got a bunch up here. Isn't it funny to here the folks out East freak out about Zero degree weather, thats nothin, it was 35 below here last nite. I'll keep the powder dry and bring the smoked fish and Moose jerky.

Mike, Will there be anyone showing how to screenprint. I have a customer thatraces Alfa Romeos and needs small number of things screenprinted. He can't find anyone around that will make them just like the ones on the cars when they were new. He is willing to pay the bucks to have them done as close to identical. Its worth me to learn to print. 6-8 decals or metal plates.
I have everything to screenprint on a small scale. I just don't know how to do it.
Laura ps Still waiting on a few things before I'll know if I can come for sure.
Posted by mike meyer (Member # 542) on :
thank you for your imput Laura. At this time we have silk screening of the glass for the Gold Leaf windows.. There may be an experienced silk screener in the crowd that may be able to help you, but from what I have seen in the industry, alot of jobs like this are now done on the Edge, and various Digital printers.
However, we will have an expert in the field of Cannon's who will give live demostrations thruout the meet with pretty colors and loud bangs. I realize the call for cannon blasting is not real heavy at the moment but in case the need arises, it's nice to know that "The Colonel" is just a phone call away for sub-contracting the CANNON.
Which brings me to this up-date....
New to the Letterhead Scene but not new to Minnesotan's will be a first ever "LETTERHEAD PENALTY BOX"
Yup...we'll have referee wondering would will call various infractions such as....leaving a brush to get hard in paint. Spotting too much Helvetica in a portfolio. Advising someone that you would rather "Do it in Vynull". Boring someone to death on how you clicked, deleted and to vector file and EPS to JPEG Blah blah BLAH. Blurting out randomly..."SAY IT!--TAKE IT BACK!" Telling Griz that he is "Handsome." asking .."If i Frog Juice a metal pole FIRST, will my toungue still stick to it?" Well, you get the idea....Stay on your toes because you may end up with a game misconduct, or suspended for the next 3 Letterhead Meets! We don't want any letteringbench clearing brawls.
Offical Winter Muster Temperature at 6:36 AM is.............-5 below zero.
We need snow bad , so Cisco, on your way thru Tahoe, can you bring some...Pat and Ruth are bringing a coupla jars from Canada...every little bit helps!
Enjoy your day people!

Mike, Is Michigan snow ok? We have more than enough right now and it snowedx again last night.
My customer is anal about screen printed material. I have been working with his father because he was either in Puerto Rico, Florida, etc with the car. The son races it all over this side of the hemispere. The father brought in some decals that needed to be replaced so I printed them on my Roland Pc-60 and than laminated the ones that will be on the side of the gas tank. The son saw it and new right away that it was four color process vs screenprinting one color that was used to get that specific color that they needed for the color of the decal. It wasn't good enough. Even the process has to be the same for these antiques cars. Some of them will be worth $1,000.000. when they are all done.
Posted by mike meyer (Member # 542) on :
Laura...If the end result is a Ga Zillion dollars for these cars...charge accordingly. Maybe a seperate post of Letterville screen printers will help you out. There are many people here who may be able to do this for you.

I'll be sending a couple of things, from my Cuban signage exhibition to add to your collection, next to that bad ass gas pump and your neat cool signs you have there, I used to have an gas pump, not quite as nice as that one. well amigo, got my thermols, sweats shirts, I have some insulated gloves around here somewhere, now just need one of them insulated jackets, I saw the Ice Palace (sp) they are having at St Paul-Minneapolis on TV this morning, So I know it's going to be cold, but if 2,000,000 people are going to see it, I guess that cold weather is not a big factor, hey I ain't scared of a little frost...yeah right!!! Pat promised Ruth some winter that he'd take her down south where it's warm and they will lounge by the beach.... He's going to do it....They will be HERE in Mazeppa! (It's south, it's warmer than Unity!)
Nice work Pat! (W.D's is having a beach party this weekend!)
One morning there at the farm house in Unity, Pat and Ruth were in the kitchen and Pat started Sobbing hysterically...Ruth said, " PAT! Honey, what's the matter?"
Pat looked up thru his tears and said, "Ruth, remember when I was 18 and you were 15 and we were making love in the back seat of that old Buick way back when?" Rruth replied."yeah"
Pat then said.."And remember when your Dad caught us and he pointed that shotgun at me and said.."You will marry my daughter or go to Prison!, remember that?"
Ruth said."Yes, why?"
Pat said..."Today's the day I would have gotten out."
Thank you very much! you are a great audience!

hey Mike...All I gotta know is Pat bringin' his gittar and has he learned all the words to "Pirates on the Saskatchewan" yet? Looks like from all the stuff that's happening there won't be any time for a jam, but if there is, at least we won't be interrupted by a big wind, unless you decide to sing too! Can't wait to get there...having a hard time keeping my mind on work...this is new? Only for this would I drive seven hours in the dead of winter...or maybe for a drink. See ya! MUR

Mike, seein'as how you're probably not too busy, seeif you can scare up a gittar for Pat...or a washtub bass, or a kazoo or whatever. deb can't make it she has taken a JOB, with, like, a reglar paycheck 'n benefits 'n like that... scary...but she gave me this trip for a Christmas present. Don't know what I did to deserve a wife like her' but if I ever find out, I'm gonna bottle it. MUR

A very productive day yesterday......here are some pictures of the "Stage" for workshops, and just one of the walls in the panel jam area.
It snowed a wee bit, enuf to cover the ground and whitened things up. Still need more. We are suppose to go into the dep freeze this week, but after that the Letterheads come to town and it will be sunshine and a hot 30 degrees. (Makes you warm all over don't it CISCO?!)
I'm putting everything I got into this baby, I wanna make it fun and a great learning experience for all!

Hello Mike,
Three quick questions about the Muster
What time do the doors open on Thursday morning?
Where is the check-in? Meyer Sign Shop or Mazeppa Community Center or ?
Will there be a "dusty room" for cutting panels and jigsaw work on HDU? Or will we be "taking it outside".
Bonus Question: Where is the best place to get breakfast in Lake City MN as I head for Mazeppa?
Posted by mike meyer (Member # 542) on :
Hello, Paul
8a.m. check in at Ore's Idle Hour(South side of shop, look for signs that point to registration entrance). Yes, you can make dust in the "New Mazeppa Wood Shop". The best place to get breakfast is at the "Galley".

What a bummer...Sounds like you guys and gals are gonna have a BLAST! I'd love to come and play with you all...Cisco & Jill, you have some fun for me, okay?
Hey Mike, the 7th is my Dad's birthday - would have been the big 60!...sling some paint for him. He's probably gonna be there anyway watching over your shoulder. :-)

I made some templates for the curved signs out of 18"x 24" metal or aluminum blanks, so I'll be sending them soon as I can can a jump start on my panel for the "Mazeppa Muster" I can finish it over there. Like Rich Stebbings told me "out of all the Letterheads meets he's been to Mazeppa topped them all!" Got my bag pretty much packed and found my gloves for that 30 degree hot beach weather Kimberly, I'll do my best to get you a picture of me side saddling the buffalo, and doing a head stand on his horns, while he's running Wish you could go...

We are now less than 15 days from the Muster, so Accuweather.com has the long range forecast.
Thursday Sunny 13 deg F / - 11 deg C
Friday Partly Sunny 15 deg F / - 9 deg C
Saturday Chance of Fluries 19 deg F / - 7 deg C
And the short range forecast is It's going to snow in Mazeppa today.
As they say at Lambeau Field - "If it's to cold, you're too old."
See you all in Mazeppa.

HOY!!! (As Mike & I say when greeting each other)
Mike's bro here, Tim. Here's another perspective on the status of things, pre-Muster. We have a good heavy snow coming down today. Yesterday was a very productive day at the shop. The overseas gents (Bri, Ash, Stu & Scott) dove into things along with a few local volunteers & we moved a number of loads of "stuff" out of the shop to make room for everyone. A number of meet signs got made (Brian). One of the most fun work details we accomplished was putting the finishing touches on Ore's. That place wreaks of character & style!!! Once in there, you don't wanna leave. Ya have to be there. One corner has the corn stove generating warmth & a unique homey corn stove aroma. The other corner has a vintage, fully operational old floor console stereo along with 150 or so albums. They're sorted into 2 piles, country & classic 70's rock. Play whatever you want! The ceiling has numerous interesting items wired to it, including the restored antique high chair that Mike & I flung food from a few days past. That's enuf info for now. Don't wanna tell everything about the place. Gotta leave some for the imagination & discovery. Needless to say, the spirit of the Muster is already live & well at Mike's shop & waiting to welcome everyone. See y'all there next week.

If anyone's wonderin what those bags are that Stuart & I are stacking outside of Ore's, it's corn for the corn stove. Ashley was inside the door, tossing them to me, me to Stuart. Had to make room in Ore's.

Mike, Let Sara know that I will let her practice on my hair when I get there. You guys seem really cold in some of those photos. It was 28 here yesterday. Is there that much difference in 28 and -15. Isn't yours a "dry cold"? I can't wait to get there.
Posted by mike meyer (Member # 542) on :
ask the fella's from overseas about the cold....when they got here, it was -15 below..yesterday when we went skiing, it was 15 ABOVE...even though it was still..only 15 degrees below zero, it felt like 50 above! 30 degree swing is a drastic cahnge and it feels really good! It probably will not feel too good when you come from a 70 degree climate but you will adjust!
Schools closed today as we have been in a steady snowfall since 5 PM last night! Thank you Pat and Ruth Welter for the snow!!! Right on time!!!! We could use more so Ryan and Donald can get some snowmobiling in!
Another hectic work day, things to tidy up, here and there......Please email us ASAP if you are arriving Via airport and IF you need a shuttle ride....We are gathering together the names and times of folks coming in and it looks as though it will work out well!
Minneapolis/St.Paul International Airport Information number is 612-726-5555 in case you need any information. We look forward to all of you coming and having a great time! We already are!

We are going into a heat spell today. Last night was 15 and is supposed to get up into the low 30's today. I haven't seen this much snow since the 70's. Back then when the snow plows would go thru, all you could see is the top of the street signs sticking out. We have many back roads that are almost blown shut.

It's 2:30am early Tuesday morning, but we're still determined to be up and on the road to Mazeppa by 10am. Hoping to get thru Chicago tomorrow before finding a room for the night.
Our 24 year old son Adam will be coming along. He's all excited about becoming a PinHead these days. Nothing better than a Letterhead meet to give him the chance to get more info firsthand.
Find me a nice, comfy spot in Ores Mike! Looking forward to meeting lots of new people this trip.

Mike,
Wish I was coming out to the Muster...looks like you've planned one heck of a great meet this weekend. My only question is...
...do you ever sleep? hehehe Rapid
Posted by Laura Butler (Member # 1830) on :
We were supposed to get freezing rain last night but I just woke up and looked outside and there is ....
I had to edit this as I must have been sleep walking when I looked otuside and thought I saw snow. Actually its real hazy, warm, and everything looks like it could be melting and leaving ice underneath everything. Sure glad I'll be leaving for the Muster tomorrow. Its got to be warmer. Hehehe

With a post like this, how can anyone say no??? Can't wait to get out of here tomorrow. Just make sure that snow is off the roads, I don't want to spend time plowing, I want to have fun, fun, fun.
So, how much snow did Mazeppa get? Here we got about 10". Had to drive the bad boy truck the last to days to the shop. Only had it sideways a couple of times. (Ha Ha - Hubby don't know that...)
Well, I will be hopping in the car and leaving in about 24 hrs. Yippie.

12 hrs from now, I'll be sitting at the airport waiting for my flight. Got all the bills paid and still had money left for panel saw. Can't wait to win it.
I need this meet and time away. I have been telling customers that I am on the verge (from all the stress) of spontaneous combustion. So if I don't make it, every will know that I combusted.
ps. I have learned from the few other letterhead meets that I have been to that everyone wears name tags the first day and then name tags of old-time members seem to get lost the second day. I hope that I can persuade some of the regulars to wear theirs a bit longer for all us newbies.

But I will be by Saturday.
Have a great meet everyone, Debbie

We're back in Chippewa Falls, safe and sound. Thanks to Mike and all of his staff for an entertaining and awesome experience as always! My son Hunter really had a good time for only his second meet. We wish we could have stayed for Saturday too, but we had a basketball tournament in Winter, WI for my daughter. They won the tournament, so we're glad we didn't miss that!!!
Even with seeing all of the talented people's creative sign work, I think the best part is meeting new people. I had the pleasure of meeting several new Bullboard comrades along with others that I haven't seen since the '99 Muster. I was welcomed aboard to help Andy and Laurie plan for the '03 Tomahawk meet, and it wouldn't have been possible without meeting them through Mike. It was a real pleasure and surprise having Brian O'Prey stop in to our shop late in '03 thanks to Mike as well.
Thanks to all of you who encouraged my son as he painted on his "panels"... I think he did nine panels (about 7 on the first day!)and also for allowing him to "pester" as an 8 year old may sometimes do.
One final thanks again to Mike Meyer, the ultimate Letterhead, for re-introducing me to the world of Letterhead meets. (hadn't gone to once since my first in '84) I think I'm up to about 10 meets total now, and over half have been associated directly because of Mike: Red Wing '93 or so Shiveree '94 or so Muster '99 Brush Bash '02 thanks for your help and encouragement for us to host our own meet, and this is where we "officially" met Andy and Laurie Shiveree '03 Tomahawk '03 Winter Muster '04 International Muster '05 !!!
Andy, the whitetail portrait is unbelievable!!! Natalie stared at it for quite a long time admiring it. We will have it framed and hung up ASAP! THANK YOU!!!

Brooke (my daughter who helped pull the meet together also) & I were all choked up seeing them off. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we enjoyed you. The towns people & surrounding community people, have many good memories & compliments of everyone that came. Thanks to all for pitching in to help when we needed it, no questions asked, you just "got er done!". Everyone is so mellow & happy to be there, we never have any problems. That makes it all go smooth. The 2005 planning is underway. See everyone then.

I just got in, but minus luggage...oh well, they say it'll get here. A big thank you to Mike Meyer for being such a generous and warm host. I can't say enough about how great it was to meet some more of the great folks here at the BB. And how good it was to meet some new friends from the north country at this meet. The number of panels being done at the meet was astounding. The work being done there just just fantastic. And thanks to David for the woodgraing workshop that kept going all weekend....that alone was worth the trip up there. Wow ! There was all sorts of new things coming at you everyday ! How about that treasure hunt for the Butler CD set ? Very cool ! And several meet souvenirs, lots of brushes for sale, the wild game feast, great chow at WD's Bar and Grill....phew !
And I wanted to say how great it was to see the town of Mazeppa so involved. There was a steady parade of local people who came by to see the meet in person, and there were whole classes of school kids passing through. Mike deserves a lot of credit for what he is doing for all letterheads when he gets this kind of community involvement. It's got to be a plus when local folks get to see this work being done, and then have the opportunity to purchase one of those panels for their own homes. It's putting our work in places it has never been before, and I think that creates more appreciation and respectability in the public's eye for the things we do. Thanks Mike.

Andy and I have collected one of our children and the other one just called and said he was ready to come home as well. (He went with a friend to the Miracle movie)
On our way home we talked about the favorite things that happened to us at the meet, and there are so many, it would be unfair to metion just one. The Letterhead group is such a helping family and we are greatful to all who have encouraged us to continue to do new and different things! We all have that one 'favorite' thing we like to do, and we all have things we want to improve on. With out this group of people, where would we all be? Pat Welter and Maris Schilling you are the people who have influenced my carving and I would like to thank you for all of your direction! In spending as little as 5 minutes with you, the carving I do has improved 10 fold!
Mikes family is a one of a kind. We are so fortunate to have families who help out with the meets. Lots and Lots of work = Lots and Lots of fun!
Thanks a million! We had a great time. We are already looking at the schedule to figure out which meet to go to next! Hope to see all of the people we met this weekend at several other meets.

We're in Michigan City, back at the same Comfort Inn we stayed at on our way to Mazeppa. After almost 8 hours on the road, we're all ready for a good night's sleep.
Special thanks to Mike, Ayleen and the gang that helped put this meet together. We first experienced the Mazeppa Magic back in 1999. It was wonderful to return to this special town so full of memories for so many of us.
We also want to thank Nancy Dahling, owner of WD's, for opening her home up for the Shortreeds. This lady works so many hours, we never really got to spend as much time with her as we would have liked. We're hoping to carry on our friendship via the Internet.
I've already started processing the photos we took. Over the next few days, a report on this meet will be made. Please e-mail us any photos and/or special stories you would like to see included.
Stay tuned!

I finally got the opportunity to help and ask lotsa questions on some gold on glass projects (thanks to Dewayne, Griz, Pat, and Barb) and I'm all hyped up and ready to play!
Thanks also to Sonny, Donald, and His Majesty for giving me a lift to the airport. Much appreciated!

It 11:51 pm and I just woke up. A special thanks to those who made sure that we got to the airport bright and early Sun for our flights. I didn't get to bed Sat. until 2:20 am and got up and on the road by 5:30 with Mark and Jillbeans. Caught my flight to Chicago, laid over for 3 hours, and then caught the my flight to Flint, MI. I went right to my Daughter's house to see my grandbabies, and then came home and laid down on the couch.
Thanks go to Mike and all his crew. Anyone that didn't go really missed some good fellowship, seminars, and music on Fri. Thank you David for sharing your knowledge on woodgraining. You were so patient with so many of us. I couldn't get my 18" x 24" panel in my suitcase so I had to carry it everywhere I went around the airport. We had to got on transport buses to go to our small plane and people would ask about it. They were amazed that it just paint and stain. I plan on making some money with this and even more important is having some fun. Its making me really stop and look at wood. As I walked into my house I had to stop and study my mahongany doors.
David, when my dad died 3 years ago I thought that I had told him everything that I wanted. Now I realize that there are still things I wish that we had talked about. Take care of your dad and spend as much time with him as you can. He is one of a kind and a real dear. Give him a hug for me.

Sorry, I posted a new topic before I realized this one was still going (toward a record) Mike's meet was all that was expected and more. Tim, Brooke, and all the family and volunteers took care of every detail. Brooke, by the way, is the future Miss Minnesota. The interaction with the locals made the meet even more interesting with everyone opening their homes to all. Mike's childhood chum, Tim, even took us for a midnight snowmobile ride. I'm hooked.
Also, thanks to the contributors to the auction. It was fun and resulted in not only big bucks for the museum, but some intense bidding wars too. And where else would you be entertained by a bagpiper and gorilla playing the accordion?
After 3 days, I'm not sure if I saw everything on Mike's walls - all eye candy, of course, with new additions evolving everywhere. I saw some old friends, made some new ones, learned some new tricks, tried some new food(elk and buffalo),quaffed some really cold beer, and made some plans to return in 2005. Thanks to all for a great meet.

Back in the shop and trying to put into words what happened this weekend. Alot of people have commented on how great it was, so I don't have alot of new info about that. It was really great meeting BB folks in person. There is nothing like going for a snowmobile ride at 1:30am in subzero temps. Mike, please telling him thank you again for me.
Mike, I had an incredible time and will be back in 2005.

Back home in Kenora...can't stop talking about the meet. Absolutely incredible hospitality, talent, workshops, folk... where is Mazeppa, I'm asked? The centre of the world, baby! Mike , I didn't get a chance to thank you and say g'by as the thought of the ten hour drive ahead of me had me swamp out early, and you were busy, but a belated thank you for a terrific meet. Will I be there in '05? Just try and stop me! See ya'

Whew! I think Mazeppa is gunning for the title of "Letterhead Capital of the Planet". Mike Meyer and his family and friends, and the town of Mazeppa sure know how to treat their guests. Project leaders got WONDERFUL heavy flannel shirts that said "Frozen Stiff Staff" with a polar bear design (by David Butler I think). I felt so privileged to be wearing that shirt all weekend.
The quality and variety of projects was terrific. 2 major pictorials (Dave Correll and Andy Goretski); 2 large, 1 medium and 1 small gold leaf on glass - on installed windows like you'd have on the job site, complete with all the distracting elements like doors opening and closing, overspray from painting, cold glass, poor lighting, etc; Wonderful wood graining demos (ongoing); Carving sharpening, and new ways to get results in your carving (Murray, you never did actually SHOW that utility knife technique to me - next time for sure!); TOO MUCH TO LIST IT ALL - WAIT FOR BARB SHORTREEDS PICS.
It was REALLY cool to see all the folks from warmer climates giving our northern winter a try. I think they were pleasantly impressed. Of course the weather cooperated by remaining above zero and snowing gently - not so much to be a nuisance, just beautiful. They liked the automatic beer cooler right outside the door, and the brightness of a sun filled, snow filled morning. Did you order that Mike? 'Cause I have to admit I was a bit nervous the week before when it never made it above zero for 3 days in a row.
One of my favorite things is talking to a person at their FIRST meet. Because it doesn't matter how many letterheads you attend, the FIRST will be BURNED into your memory FOREVER!.
LONG LIVE LETTERHEADS AND LONG LIVE MAZEPPA! ]

Hey,Barb... The utility knife is nothin'! Wait til you see the axe. Seriously, it was great to meet you and all the other folks at the Muster...ain't that Mikey somethin' though? I've got so.o.o.o many new ideas rolling around my tired ol' head I don't know where to start. Maybe a little woodgraining first, I think.or perhaps some air bru,,,,oops, think I fell asleep there.

Made it to Mazzepa and back only to get stuck at the bottom of my driveway! This was my first meet. And it surely will not be my last. I was more than a little intimidated and overwhelmed by all the talent in Mike's shop. If they had a Giger counter for talent, it would have exploded. But I got to meet some fabulous people. Found out that Jillibeans is a long lost cousin! (Well, probably anyway) Mike, you and your family are outstanding hosts. Tim was amazing. Big thanks to all the Frozen Stiff Staff. I wish Mike & Jill from Sundance Signs in NH would come to this BB more often so they would know how great it was seeing them again. Joe C. Mike S. Donald...so many great and talented folks. So willing to share. Amazing. Need to work out with Mike how to get my one-of-a-kind tool cabinet back here to Mass. Thanks, Mark. My son will be killing quite a few kittens with that thing ;-) Peace, All.

Hello all, From a first time attendees standpoint, My wife and I have to agree that The Muster was the place to be this past weekend. A huge Chicagoland Thank you to Mike, Ayleen, Tim and all the other individuals whom made the event what it was and believe me... It was an Event. We were amazed at the craftsmanship and the welcoming atmosphere that was present from the moment we walked in on Thurs. Morn to the time we left on Sat. Evening. Everyone was friendly and made you feel at home no matter if it was your first meet, or you were a familiar face from past events. The hospitalty was also extended from Nancy at WD's next door with the outstanding food, service and atmosphere that also contributed to the unforgettable experience. A big Thank you to her for everything as well. While I did not work on a panel(s), My wife did get a chance to make one of her own and even get in some air brush experience. It is to the fabulous group from Superfrog that we thank for providing the necessary supplies etc. to put it all together and offer suggestions and compliments along the way. Thanks again sooo much. The seminars / speakers were outstanding to say the least. From Woodgraining, to Carving, HDU to Resins and Bonding, Mold making, Financial planning, Airbrushing....I don't think there is anyone person who attended that didn't leave without learning at least one new technique, tip or trick that they didn't know before. A big thanks to the supplies and other goodies at the event,Including but surely not limited to:(only because there was so much there I probably can't remember it all)One Shot, Coastal Enterprises, Midwest Sign Supply, etc. I left with a wealth of new ideas and knowledge that I can't wait to try or incorporate into my own work at some point in time. A must is setting the time aside in the future to attend other meets and see some of the friendly faces again and to meet others from the board here. Mazeppa in 2005 is definitely going to be in that schedule. I am sure I will have more to offer others and won't be so reserved in introducing myself (and Kim)to the fellow letterheads by then. As the many projects in progress get finished by the many who were there, I hope that they get posted for all to see as there were a ton of cool things coming together that I'm sure will be awesome when complete. Thanks to all for the warm welcome again and hope to see all of you again.

Well, it's OK for all you folks who have returned home, or wherever you are......I'm still here in Mazeppa. There is a quiet air about the place although the work hasn't stopped. Today was a return to signwriting a Pizza menu board....approx 200words to be laid out and hand-written.....fantastic (what other way is there to do it??????) Tomorrow I put the detail in !!!!!,,,,,,,and then, of course, there are the other jobs to do. If you weren't here then you can only guess. Those who were here, know!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the HUB of signpainting.....nowhere else can claim such an honour (English spelling). A meet that in which those who participated can only truely converse about. Thanks Mike, Tim, and family members involved, plus it was good to meet Ash, Dave and his father Tony, Stewart, Scott and Tim Bird again. Get your asses to the next meet, wherever it is....Mazeppa 2005 plus Greece 2005. Live for now....not tomorrow (Brian O'Prey , 2004)

PS..... Nancy, the owner of W.D's wants to have her bar filled with signs (now she's hooked) and, for a panel, she will send you a free sweatshirt with W.D's logo. This is the home of signs so please give graciously. At last we have a bar that caters for our needs. Add your email address to your panel (either to Mike or www.wdsbarandgrill.com) and you will be a recipient of a shirt, and soon to come, a design for this year's motorcycle-fest courtesy of your's truely.....Brian O'Prey!!!!!!!!! It was a pleasure to meet everyone in Mazeppa. Keep it Kickin'..........Rankin, wankin, skankin, DJ Brian

Thanks to so many who were here to make it special....let's do it again!
I have the task of climbing aboard this steam engine and gettin it back on track to make some real job money. What else is there? I love it so...just like the Glasga Banter!!
If you are on my path to and from South Carolina in March, please Eamil me your address so I can stop and see you and possibly bed down for the night and deliver the Cabinet to Mass, ans the Panel Saw to New York !!
You only live once, and your a long time Dead, DO it NOW!

Hi All, I guess they all were right...Mazeppa was the place to be. I am so glad that I was a part of it. I have learned so many new things and can't wait to do some back here in the shop. I think I might be getting the hubby interested. He did a design while I was gone that had a paint brush in it. Baby steps. haha.
Mike I want to thank you for keeping me involved and inspired. Your emails make me remember my new found direction. Also thanks to Andy and Lauri for your continued support and for encouraging me to attend the Tomahawk meet which was my first. Mazeppa was my 3rd meet and I have now done an array of things including glass guilding, airbrushing, painting, carving, and sandblasting. Thanks to everyone that has given me advice and helped me out in one way or another. I am truely blessed to have found such a talented group of people to learn from. Thank You. Where is the next meet????
Thanks to Mike's family and the town of Mazeppa. I hope you know what you've got...
The tradition continues in 2005. See you there. Heidi

I'm back home, got in last night at 10 pm from the best meet I ever been too! Mike, he's the greatest, and his family, friends, and neighbors are all DYNAMITE! In my opinion, I think his shop will be a museum or a tourist attraction. So much to see, and everyone there was getting down on what ever they was doing. The place is just fabulous! The engery was overwhelming!
I'm not a cold weather person and had doubts about going to a below zero area, or even if it was 15-20 degrees. It wasn't my type of place that I could see myself visiting. Ahhhh, I was so wrong, I almost wanted to take some shirts off it was so warm inside. Outside, yeah it was a bit brisky, but now I know what's it like in your part of the country. To walk across the street to WD's couldn't kill you. Actually it was kind of neat to see the snow flakes fall with the neon lights in the background. Mike really does have a unique place.
I got in late, so I missed the Elk steaks, but did get to try the Buffalo burgers. I did meet a guy name Taco, who was going to bring some Buffalo meat so we could make some Buffalo Tacos, but I don't know what happened, only saw him one time after that.
The last day there Mike drove all the U.K. fellows and myself to Minneapolis, we got to tour the Ice Palace, ice carvings, parts of St Paul and across the river to Minneapolis. I ended up hanging out with the fellows from Ireland, Scotland, Wales. We all pitched in for some rooms at the Embasy Suites, what a place! We both got a kick out of our accents. I learned a few words from them but they have a totally different meaning here, and I gave them a few wordss too, told them when they meet Chicanos, or Mexicans to say "Orale!" I think it was Stuart who said I was the closest he was going to get to meet Cheech, from Cheech and Chong. Got to meet lot of new cool folks I never met before, camped out with Joe Endicot, at one of the neighbors house, but never met the owner of the home till two later, and I was half asleep on his sofa. I look forward to next one in July 2005. Mazeppa, is the place to be for a great meet!
p.s. by the way has anyone seen my "signed poster?"

It was the best 3 days of my life so far. I love spending time down at Mike's shop and im sure everyone can relate to me who was there.
Today i went down there and started cleaning up. We got Ore's all cleaned up and theres aton of extra blue shirts, Ores t'shirts and a few red "frozen stiff staff" ones left. Feel free to email mike or myself and tell us what you would like.
But thanks again to everyone who was there. I can't wait until 2005 comes around!! We're already planning everything out.

I'm still amazed at Bruce winning the panel saw!!
Yes, Mike... I painted!! Can you believe it? I actually lettered, sorta... filled in the lines. Mike's family and friends are wonderful. Just like Mike! Minnesota nice, fer shure.
I loved watching people work and paint. I loved the smells. The food was absolutely fabulous (yikes... I gotta weigh in tomorrow!!)
MANY THANKS to a special couple - Steve and Barb - for all their time and work in this site. So many wonderful people I would have never had the chance to meet if it wasn't for them!!
It still amazes me how many people pay any attention to me painting my artsy fartsy flowers with 88 cent craft paint!! I still shake my head in disbelief that I was showing David from Wales!! The way he painted 'wood' was incredible. I can't wait to attempt that. And his father, what a doll!! We even got to talkin bout Border Collies, sheep and milking cows!
Hey Stevo... BOING!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Now I know what Larry, Moe & Curly's real names were... Ryan, Bruce and Donald!!
Hey Jill... if Bruce ever comes home with anything of his dyed purple... you got some explaining to do...
Thanks, Jeremy, for the airbrush pointers. Bruce got the biggest kick outta the squirrels! I will think of you come spring when we start getting the babies brought in.
Hugs to Dave Sherby!! Don't forget the lime juice!
I know there were tons of other people I should mention, Hi to the rest of ya!!

No movie, you have to put pennies in jars and be here for yourself. Ask the people that were here.
The meet is only as good as it's attendees. If you give them the room, the atmosphere, their own variety of choices...they will respond bigger and better than they ever thought they could. THAT is the successful recipe for a Letterhead Meet.

What!?!?! You are holding out for a pizza, too? Sheesh, you drive a hard bargain. Just for that, we are going to make you wear a tourist t-shirt.

Hey Mike and all whom attended the winter muster...In our excitement of the auction and fellowship we forgot to get a group picture...So had this brain wave ( from this prairie born stubble jumper)...What if we put together a pic board like they do at Colleges and Universities...you know where everyones pic is in a verticle oval with name underneath...we could do the Winter muster logo in the middle, surrounded by the staff then everyone else...If you like this Idea let me know and we'll have to figure out how we can get everyones pic so as to put it together...Have a Super Fri. the 13th everyone...Pat

tHInk 1'm gettin used 2 the cUpmoetr now,,, here goes,... we is back home in little Wales telling everyone how we went in an airplane to the land of the brush, we made the bestist friends anyone could ever wish for, the local natives seemed to accept us with open arms, the animals let us eat them and the man with the big moustache just wanted every man woman and child to enjoy themselves.

Since PhotoShop is where I do my panels I could probably make a group shot. All I need is some pics to start with. They don't even have to be taken at the meet. But it would good if you could dress in the appropriate Mazeppa attire.

Hey Pat, the picture thang sounds good, Let's try it.....Have Ruth take a Pic of you, then you take a pic of the Lovely Ruth, and send em to Steve and Barb....I'll do the same!

What a class act, Mike and Eileen! I truly enjoyed my time at Mazeppa and the wonderful folks there really hang together to make us feel really welcome! I thought I would see some Moose walking down the street with a Guiness in his backpack, it was just like that! The beautiful signwork in town reflected the goings ons since the first meet, which I missed by 5 hours. Still, I was fully able to catch up! Pulling in at 5:30 pm on Sat. eve (taking the winding country roads from Illinois), I first saw Pate Neve and his son outside of the auction/spaghetti dinner, finally getting a chance to meet! There was Cisco too. Seeing a lot of familiar faces, including Steve and Barb, (and of course, Dana and Bruce, Laura, Andy, and Laurie, really put that letterhead spirit right back in me! The celtic bagpipes and dancing and I think I met the man of my dreams, now, the gorilla playing the accordian! Besides all the scottish kilts and comradery, the projects displayed at Mike's shop were a testimony of where I was, a-much-spiced-up northern exposure! Thanks to Sue Arndt who graciously treated me to her home on the hill, home to four beauties of quarter horses and one cat along with enjoying some fine stories of her travels on horseback in South Dakota. What a talented artiste she is with a passion for the events in the town. (and again, Laura Butler, thankss for introducing me to Sue) Finally, I had the pleasure of meeting some folks I had only chatted with online and the phone; including Donald Thompson and the Welters. When I was one of the last stragglers in Mike's shop Sunday morning, I realized that it was Pat Welter working on the beautiful goldleaf on Mike's new window inside the shop! I was honored to have some one on one chat with Cisco and see the showcards he made from his trip to Cuba, as he reminisced a little bit about his trip. We'll still be looking for that panel, pal, it must be in someone's stuff that doesn't come on the bull board. Pat, thanks for showing me about the graduations of the gold leaf on that window, as I would love to see it when it is finished in the light! Well, I need to close so I can continue working on my panels! Don't miss out on Mazeppa, folks, you will never regret it- a trip well worth it.

Deb, I am glad that you got along with Sue. She seemed like the type of person that would be easy to sit up all night and talk with. I wish you had gotten there earlier. I don't think that I have seen you since Don Hulsey's meet. Sure wish we could have spent some time together.

Yo Mike,
I think the photo idea is great. I seem to remember a guy in Oklahoma who did some stuff like that. He was a featured artist in SignCraft.
Maybe Dave Butler could be sweet talked into using something like that in his workshops. Hmmmmmmmm... You could be that silver tongued devil we so desperately need...
Let's see who gets 300!
Posted by Bruce Bowers (Member # 892) on :
Yeah.... I had to do it. Dana made me. Yeah, that's the ticket......
Posted by Laura Butler (Member # 1830) on :
Just wanted to be the one to put this message over 300.
