How to Draw Lifelike Portraits from Photographs
by Lee Hammond

This book does exactly what it says! You don’t need any prior art lessons to understand and learn how to realistically reproduce portraits from photographs. Lee Hammond meticulously explains each step in the process of drawing. She takes the reader from the materials to get, to each feature of the face, to hair, clothing, hands, composition, backgrounds, and special effects. Her book has a generous supply of her own outstanding portraits and her students’ drawings, and they are absolutely beautiful. She also shows you some before and after drawings that are so professional looking that I was really challenged to see if it could really be done. I know that they are real because guess what?? I went through the book, and it really works! I believed I had no drawing ability until I went through this book. Lee Hammond is a master artist and teacher. The best thing is that these techniques can be transferred to drawing anything...not just portraits. If you ever wanted to produce lifelike, realistic portraits, get this book. It’s worth every penny!!!

If you've wanted to draw beautiful, realistic-looking portraits of your favorite people, this step-by-step guide shows you how to do it.  This 135 page 12 x 9 inch book takes you through gird set up to fill in techniques that produce some amazing results, and will knock years off the learning curve.

Some artists will disagree with this method, but think of the commercial sign applications you can accomplish with this system.  If you ever needed to paint a face on a wall, and wanted it to look exactly like the person your are painting, this book will show you the principles.

Since I have had this book and applied the techniques, I have accomplished some pretty amazing things myself....some of these pictures you have seen me post on the BB.

My latest drawing is of my son Jason, and it actually captures his real life look. My other drawings have been close, but this one is a dead ringer!

My goal to paint a face on the inside of my shop wall which is 8 feet high, using an airbrush in stead of a pencil.  This book will along with a good one on airbrushing techniques will help me realize that dream.

I bought the book at Barnes and Noble and paid $25.00..U.S. The Amazon price is $17.99.

Here is a portrait of Jason which shows what I have learned from this book.
